How to ruin Christmas using only a 360 box and some clothes

Mar 2nd 2008 11:57PM (Joystiq)
It is evident that the kid doesn't deserve any game machine. When he saw what it was, he dropped the box and then practically rips the box open. The 360 is fragile enough as it is and he goes and drops it. That alone tells me he doesn't deserve a game machine until he learns how to take care of his stuff.
Granted I felt bad for the kid at first, then after the "abuse"... Nah, screw'm.

Contra 4 announced for Nintendo DS, available 2007

Jun 20th 2007 11:37AM (Joystiq)
Wow! The sequel to an effin awesome SNES game is finally being made... By a company with a track record that screams craptacular. Great... How can any of you think this is good news for the Contra series? Konami should have ponied up and paid Treasure to do a good 2D Contra... Damn, I got all excited and depressed in the same article.

720p PS3 games downscale on older HD sets [update 1]

Nov 16th 2006 7:28AM (Joystiq)
OK I've read all comments and checked out stuff on the internet but I've still got some questions that are troubling me...

1. I don't get it... Why would a TV have 480p and the next resolution is 1080i? Shouldn't 720p be on the TV before 1080i would be? Just thinking logically resolution-wise. It's like a monitor saying it supports 640*480, 1024*768, and then 2048*1536 but not 1280*1024... Does anyone follow me?
So does this mean that the quality of resolutions goes: 480i, 480p, 1080i, 720i, 720p, 1080p? This is confusing...

2. How can you find out how good the resolution scaler is in a TV?

3. Are there any TVs that support 480i/p, 720i/p, 1080i/p without scaling? (basically every resolution currently natively supported)

4. Are there any more big things about HDTV that I should know before buying one? (Other than the number of inputs it has)

I'm know I'm HDTV ignorant but, I'd greatly appreciate the help. Thanks everyone~ :D

Joystiq Cares: Please rethink waiting in PS3 lines

Pathetic is too kind of a word to describe that...

PS3 displays hit Best Buy

Oct 4th 2006 5:38AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I threw out the ones we received for my Best Buy... Why? 2 big reasons:

1. I love my PS2 and I will buy a PS3 but talk about over-promising all over again. "...change the nature of gaming and ent. forever".
I got burned hard with the PS2 during the first year. I was "privileged" to be one of the 1st to own a PS2 with nothing good to play for almost a whole year... MGS2 was only decent.
Not going to go down that wrong road again.
"...change the nature of gaming and ent. forever"... Yeah it might but not for 3 years or so... When the price is decent and there are actually great games to play; just like the PS2's situation was.

2. My store manager was totally fine with it. We know we don't need to waste space now for PS3 advertising when all the gamers know when it's coming and those are the only people that will get one this xmas.

Picture it: top secret game design manual found in dumpster outside big game publisher's HQ

Wow~ For those that are opposed to a little graph / joke about gaming, over-reaction is the word for y'all.
First, it's a joke. Second, it's about gaming. It's not inappropriate for a gaming site. If it's a slow news day, why not put something amusing to read on the site? I'd rather have a little joke related to gaming then not having anything updated on the page... Some people are way too serious.

The Wii isn't region-free, after all

Sep 15th 2006 9:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Great. I was really excited about the region free-ness of Wii. What's next? Are they going to take away the capability to purchase VC games from other regions next?

PSA: Nintendo's international press event schedules [update 2]

Sep 13th 2006 9:20AM (Joystiq)
For those of us in Japan or have friends in Japan, the retailer Tsutaya is taking Wii reservations. I made mine August 4th and I am the first in line for that location.

And WOW... It's amazing how many people couldn't read into that guys (W!!On360) post as being a humorous take on how stupid fanboys can be. It's so incredibly thick on stupidity, how could anyone think it's real?

North American, Japanese PS3 launch limited to 500,000 units

Sep 6th 2006 6:32AM (Joystiq)
400k for the US and 100k for Japan? I think there must be a typo somewhere in there... 'Cause I think Japan has a stronger market for new machines than the US and to give the US 300k more machines doesn't make any sense to me.
Seems to me that Nintendo and Microsoft will be raking in sales after the initial 500k PS3s are gone. I'm sure that Nintendo and Microsoft will have way more than 500k units available when the PS3 launches(especially Microsoft since the X360 has been out for a while).
File this under "wtf/are you kidding"...
