Analyst: American PS3 sales to match Xbox 360 in 2008

Feb 5th 2008 5:52PM (Joystiq)
Yea, I can see it possibly seel on par with the 360. But the question being is how many will be buying it just for a Blu-ray player only now that Blu-ray will most likley be the mainstream of choice if not now?

Are developers really seeing the rewards in sales on the PS3 for the amount of units that are currently sold? How many times you see games come in so low on the PS3 over other systems and people scratch their head and wonder why it sold so low? Could it be the ration between gamers and moviephilers?

3200 MS points for $20 at Circuit City [Update]

Jul 29th 2007 7:55PM (Joystiq)
Went to CC to see if they had any even though online stated my stores were out. Grabed their ad and went off to Best Buy. Ask the sales guy if they honor other store ads. He said they sure did and I shoed him the ad. He called over the main guy that deals with price matching and said yup, we would do this. He even went on to say.."Hell, I'll be taking advantage of that deal as I need more points."

So I had no problem getting the cards at Best Buy as I prefer to buy it from them.

Sony's Phil Harrison: Don't judge console by launch titles

Jul 2nd 2007 6:30PM (Joystiq)
@64 Evan

You are so correct. People are so cought up in 1080p and think it is so great when it reality it isn't anything special. It goes on into the old thinking the bigger is better.

One point here that proves this is Pioneer's new 8G Plasmas. The picture quality kills anything out there now and guess what? It is only in 720p with 1080p coming later in the year...

http://www.canadahifi.com/comments.php?id_entry=161

"We were initially led to believe that the Pioneer, like most of the TVs in this comparison, was a 1080p TV set. But at the very end of the demo, we found out that in fact it was Pioneer’s XGA (768p) panel that we were watching. Why did this panel appear to display as much detail and resolution as the other TVs in this test? Pioneer claims that 1080p resolution cannot be resolved by the average person when sitting further than an arm’s length away from the screen (for a 50-inch or smaller TV) – everyone of us sat much further from the TV than this and hence we couldn’t tell the difference."

Consoles make up bulk of high-def movie player sales

Jun 26th 2007 5:01PM (Joystiq)
I hope they both will lose. You don't even have the penetration of HDTV is the houses yet compare to watching a DVD or VCR then. I feel it is to soon to be even fighting for a HD format. The way I see it is that in another 2 years you will have a new and better format that can take these on.

They should wait till there are more consumers with HDTV's before making a stand.

Oh and other reasosn why too...

Major Nelson talks Guitar Hero downloads, Halo 3

I understand the license on a new system and that for every system the same process has to go through. What I don't understand is how they come with these prices when you see other simular platforms doing the same thing at a cheaper cost.

For example on the 360, lets take DDR.

The 70+ songs are the originals for one, not covers, though one can debate on a remix. The game even has the videos of some songs. They have 10 songs on the marketplace and prices as...

1 Song = 100 points
10 songs - 800 points (20% Discount)

Now I don't know if these songs have been in the XBox, PS2 versions as I didn't look them up. But how is it that Konami can release a song at a 100 points and in it's full digital format and yet Red Octane can't for a cover band?

Either somone is doing some bad negotiating or they are giving us a line of BS.

A Wii smashing *yawn*

Nov 20th 2006 1:15AM (Joystiq)
People talk about how he did this to PS3 and now the Wii and call this guy an idiot. If anything this guy may look like one, but far from an idiot.

He brings shock factor to people and it is capture on film. With people flocking to his site, he is making a killing in advertising hits. Also the $$$ he got for these systems were donated to him to WATCH him smash the units. I mean, lots of people like Howard Stern right for his shock factor then.

So not only did it not cost him a dime, he is making money and all he had to do is sit in line for a few hours.

Smart I call it in my book.

Sony criticizes Xbox 360 movie and TV downloads

"48. #44, you can go ahead and think that if you want. There is an entire industry built around high-end cables that thinks otherwise."

Pete C, looks like you need some learning to do. Looks like you have been sold on the logic that digital cables that cost $200 are better than a pair that go for $10.

Take a read and learn on HDMI cable they tested. All the people at the AVS Forum would laught at you!
