Medal of Honor review: Danger close but no cigar

Oct 12th 2010 10:54AM (Joystiq)
Ahhh I had high hopes for this, but not sure if 5 hours of SP is worth 64 bucks. I was going to pick this up, but I'll wait for games with serious single player focus (Like Mass Effect 3). I don't care much for the MP portion. FPS MP these days are like MMORPG to an extend. If you don't spend time "leveling" up, you can't keep up.

I hope you guys know that 1-2 shots in real life will probably take you down.

PS3 3D Blu-ray playback loses lossless audio

Sep 23rd 2010 2:56PM (Joystiq)
To be quite honest, anybody who has a speaker setup that's capable of taking advantage of lossless audio wouldn't consider a PS3 as their main Blu-ray player. Keep in mind that the latest iteration of the PS3 is the ONLY version that can bitstream lossless audio. Previous PS3 versions first processed the audio onboard and sent as LPCM.

If you think there's not a difference in lossless audio and lossy audio, you either have poor hearing, or have speakers that cant make use of it. Yeah and some people used to try to convince me that 1080p was not a big deal because they can't tell the difference between upscaled DVD and true 1080p on their 30 inch screen. They're also the same people who told me they can't tell the difference between MP3 and WAV.

Truth is, some PS3 customers are using their flat panel speaker or using speaker packages so it's not a big issue. The folks who have $2000 reciever and $15000 speaker package does not use a PS3 to playback their Blu-ray movies. Period.

Super Street Fighter IV skips PC release thanks to piracy

Sep 22nd 2010 11:42AM (Joystiq)
Huh? Then why release RE5 on PC? Or anything else on PC at all?

FAILED.

Truth is, SF buyers are mainly console players. Just like EA pulled the plug on Madden on the PC. Piracy had existed, still exist, and continue to exist regardless of DRM or any protection scheme out there.

It's kinda funny how piraters works. They spend more time looking for "new" stuff to download or crack than actually sitting down and enjoying the game. They invest a ton of money on hardware to archive their stuff. Pirates dont usually play the game they stole, they make it available to other people (usually people they know), by selling or just giving it out for free.

Rumor: 3DS tech specs leaked, Digital Foundry analyzes

Sep 22nd 2010 11:24AM (Joystiq)
It's obvious why they didnt go with Tegra in its initial release. They're saving it for 3DS Lite. It's not a mystery. Nintendo use this kind of tactic all the time. Sucks to be an early adopter. Lesson learnt.

Keiji Inafune remains critical of Japanese games, deems even Capcom 'complacent'

Sep 20th 2010 12:40PM (Joystiq)
I think what he really means is that Japanese market is way smaller than US and Europe. Sure you can create a game that 95% of Japan would like, but that's pale in comparison to what Modern Warfare makes from just US and Europe. So if they want to make 200 million in week one, that aint gonna happen in Japan alone.

Mega Man Universe is based on Mega Man 2

Sep 17th 2010 11:27AM (Joystiq)
Ahhh Quick Man Stage. I remembered that memorizing the passcode to skip that boss was quite popular. Especially the fact that his boomerang weapon was very useful.

Best weapon in the game is from Metal Man.

THQ not worried about upsetting used game buyers with new game bonuses

LOL. Really?

It's cheating to charge the full game $$$ amount for a roster update.

It's cheating to withheld finished game content for DLC.

Mass Effect 2 out on PS3 January 2011

Aug 17th 2010 12:37PM (Joystiq)
@yoshieee

Technically, my 360 went RIP six months ago with the Red Ring of Death.

I'll stick to my PC, at least if something breaks, I can reliably replace it instead of getting a refurbished version months later, only to break again in another month.

BTW Mass Effect 2 Rocks, already on my 3rd round.

Street Fighter pros offering paid lessons over Xbox Live and PSN

Aug 10th 2010 9:17AM (Joystiq)
Ha! That's funny. Remind me again what's the benefit of becoming a god at SF? Oh yeah maybe one day you can offer $50 lesson over PSN and Live too. Pay them 40-50 to have them teach you how to yank a stick? Isnt everyone here an expert at THAT already?
