Dell's Latitude E6400 reviewed: lovely, save for minor annoyances

Oct 20th 2008 9:46PM (Engadget)
I received my e6400 last week and have been extremely pleased with the machine. So far all of my impressions of the machine are very good. The LED backlit screen is a welcome change from the D820/830's of previous years. If you have ever used one of those machines you will know how dim the display can be, this is not the case with the e6400. I have found the brightest setting for the display is almost too bright to be comfortable and I normally run at 90% or so. Everything is very crisp and easy to use for long periods of time with no noticable eye strain. The build quality seems very solid thus far, no flexing or creeks, even when you try to torque it. I have always been a trackpoint user and that was a major factor in my choosing this machine. The trackpoint is excellent, I have not noticed any issues with it and it is far more comfortable to use than the Lenovo t61 and outgoing D830. The backlit keyboard is also excellent, I don't know how I got any work at home done before. I find myself working odd hours and when you get a call late at night and need to type in your VPN token this is definately an awesome feature. The last thing is the battery life, I get over 7 hours of normal use on just the 9 cell battery with minor power options tuning. I do use the dell control point software to manage some of the power settings and would say they are less cludgy then the Lenovo tools i have used in the past. I would highly recommend to anyone considering this as a business laptop.

Toshiba pushes firmware 3.0 update to first-gen HD DVD players

May 8th 2008 3:19PM (Engadget HD)
Give me a break lets count the full features HD DVD launched with. PiP, Check. Internet Connectivity, Check. Finalize Spec, Check. Other than the PS3 I can not think of any BD player to future proof. And now look at the mess we are in, without HD-DVD providing compitition Bluray prices have gone up, market share for HD (all HD including BD) has gone down compared to DVD. I'll take my HD-DVD player anyday over my PS3, load times were faster on my 360 Add-on anyways compared to PS3. Half baked indeed...

Circuit City comes through after trashing man's Honda Civic

You'd think with a super creative name like VTECnical he'd be able to install a stereo in his own car... or he could be like every other ricer tard out there and the extent of his TECnical ability stops at bolting on rediculous wings and applying yellow stickers (they are the fastest color afterall).

5 PS3 predictions for 2008

Jan 1st 2008 10:05PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I must say by some of the comments in this thread PS3fanboys can be very ill informed.

Vincent I believe you are talking about CES and that is in January, next week. Also one week of hardware sales hardly equates to a trend.

As far as Warner going Bluray exclusive, give me a break. There is a rumor circulating on Bluray.com that a meeting took place last week between toshiba, warner, universal, and microsoft. It is rumored they are announcing something big at CES. They are already a confirmed presenter at the HD DVD presentation. I think your new color and price drop predictions are true enough though, the rest are pretty damn hopeful imho.

Come get your Halo 3 Legendary Edition for $109

Oct 15th 2007 3:46PM (Joystiq Xbox)
The reason these are up for the deal of the day is more than likely canceled orders.

I had pre-ordered mine from Amazon back in July and they claimed it would ship on the 25th and arrive on the 26th. Right up until the end of the day on the 25th they still did not change anything on their site for my order so I emailed them and got some long BS email saying they were back ordered, contrary to what my order status said on their site. I am sure I am not the only person this happened to and now they are stuck with all the canceled orders. Screw Amazon.

Microsoft lays down smack on AutoPatcher service, users not pleased

Aug 30th 2007 8:29PM (Engadget)
As a matter of fact I am a System Admin and if you are running Windows Clients that needed windows update on a large scale then why would you not have at least a Win2k or 2k3 server in your environment running AD or other Microsoft services? This has nothing to do with them offering a service to the little guys (thats what windows update is for) this is about them offering protected MS downloads for potentially non licensed software.

Microsoft lays down smack on AutoPatcher service, users not pleased

Aug 30th 2007 6:52PM (Engadget)
How does this help sysadmins exactly? Microsoft already has a program inplace to help system admins called WSUS. Granted 1.0 was garbage but 2.0 and now 3.0 are actually pretty good. I think this is more a move to prevent people using non wga certified software to not recieve patches any longer. Who really has a problem with using Windows Updates?

GTA IV gets delayed until second quarter '08

Aug 2nd 2007 5:57PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Wow you people over here on PS3FB are seriously stupid. Because an article from the AP says its delayed you naturally assume its because of the Xbox 360 dev side? Get real. Rockstar already has some experiance on the 360 with table tennis and none with the PS3. If anything I would point to the PS3 holding it back or... just maybe they are having a problem not specific to either... i know its a tough pill to take but it could just be Rockstar's fault and no one else's.... (queue dramatic music and fanboy crying)
