Ins and Outs: Is buyshifting the future of television? (part 2)

May 25th 2007 3:31PM (Engadget)
Jeremy - there's a term for what you are trying to brand (and take from Sling and TiVo) with your "x-shifting" term - it's a la carte. You mention yourself in your part one that people are buying "a la carte" video, and its not going away, and then you proceed to brush aside the much better known term for what you are describing and try to coin a phrase (and earn yourself some marketing material/catchphrase credibility for your consulting biz) with buyshifting.

Just call it a la carte. Everyone else does.

"Does the MC+XB360 cache local content for use when the PC is off?"

uh yes. And it can also download content directly from the Internet, unlike the Apple TV.

Entertaining Show about SNL-like Show = 30 Rock

Half the number and ten times more entertaining.

DFC: Microsoft, Nintendo have "golden opportunity"

Jul 19th 2006 1:13PM (Joystiq)
DFC was hardly the first the predict problems for Sony with the PS3:

And that's just the analysts. Insiders have been talking about the price and lack of clarity on their online gaming since E3.

New report concludes Xboy to drop in 2008

Jun 2nd 2006 12:45PM (Joystiq)
So this research company started doing gaming research about a month ago, and they all of a sudden are privy to what Microsoft is doing? Give me a break. They basically took the claim by Dean Takahashi (who really knows what is going on because he DOES have access to key Microsoft execs, made about three months ago on his blog, and put into a report. Wa-la, they have Joystiq (and countless other gaming sites) printing their PR and now they're selling reports. Has anyone asked them what the basis for their claim is? Is it they read the Internet and just made the claim in the report? Probably...

Swanni says "I predicted the truth about PVRs and advertising"

correction to above: we're NOT the exception to the rule

Swanni says "I predicted the truth about PVRs and advertising"

May 23rd 2006 9:06PM (PVR Wire)
Like many consultants, the guy is a relentless self-promoter and "self-proclaimed" visionary. Everyone knows PVRs reduce ad viewing and, I suspect, in the dark of the night Swanni knows it to. I, and everyone I know who has a PVR (and while this is anecdotal, I am pretty sure we're the exception, not the rule) watch way less commercials because the PVR allows us to do that. I watch an hour of TV a night and I watch no commercials.

It's like pointing to the one school built on a corner in Baghdad by US taxpayers that hasn't been blown up and saying "see, look how out theories of democracy on the march are coming to fruition!"

CNET reviews MovieBeam MB2160

At least try to get the technology right, as this is a technology blog. The movies are not sent over the Internet, but over terrestrial broadcast signals. Check out the website for info.. www.moviebeam.com

Microsoft declares 360 shortage is over

Mar 21st 2006 11:47PM (Joystiq)
No, um, Leto, you don't get it. It's called supply contstaint. Maybe you haven't taken any introductory economics, but the Xbox 360 HASN'T BEEN THERE FOR PEOPLE TO BUY. The PS2 has, at rock bottom prices. If there were unlimited 360s on store shelves, it WOULD be outselling the PS2. Think about it for one second (that may be too much to ask). Every Xbox 360 available at retail sells immediately. They couldn't make enough to meet demand. That's why the PS2 has been outselling. Basic, simple concept...
