microsofts success with 360 is what i would describe as temporary and accidental.

after e3 05, it seemed like ps3 was a generation ahead of xbox 360 (lol), according to alot of journalists anyway. infact most of the media already announced that the next generation war was over, ps3 being the winner.

what happened was that developers came no where near to tapping into ps3's power, whilst 360 was always easy to program for. this resulted in similar graphics for both consoles.

also because of the nature of the technology, 360 was far more cheaper to manufacture than ps3 which lead to the always prevelent big price difference between the two.

so today we have a console on the market which costs half as much as ps3, but displays almost the same graphics.

so do we blame microsoft for not trying enough or sony for trying too hard to deliver something amazing. ps3's developement was after huge success of ps1 and ps2, so it is understandable to think why sony really made an effort.

i have confidence in sony. they will win this generation war, infact im pretty certain. but it wont be anytime soon, as ps3's price reduces it will draw in huge sales. let not forget, playstation is still the biggest brand associated with gaming right now.

an intresting point to note. if sony did release a basic gaming unit, like xbox 360, and released it late 05, like xbox 360, instead of ps3, they would have wrapped up this console war by now.

the ps3's expensive price will eventually lead to a very cheap (or reasonably priced) cell based playstation4 system.

considering how high the ps3's price is above their competitors, ps3 is selling amazingly.

most of the consoles sales are shown when the price point of the console is around £100 mark (or probably around the 150$) in usa.

the xbox 360 arcade is pretty close to those price points, and as would be expected, it is selling better. (recently i became a customer as well). however i remain optimistic about sony's sales. They are selling this well at the big price point, so when the price comes down, it will sell even more.

One thing which may be overlooked. Most of sony's ps1 customers brought ps2 as their next gen console, and stuck to it. Unfortunately, alot of their ps2 owners are buying the xbox 360, the qestion is, will they also buy a ps3 at the cheaper price....or will xbox 360 always be cheaper than ps3 and always draw more sales?

yes i am comparing the xbox 360 arcade and the ps3... in the eyes of the consumers.

my recent purchase was from amazon uk, £150, i got xbox 360 arcade, 4 games (pgr4, kung pu panda, sonic tennis, lego indiana jones), extra official controller and a 2m hdmi cable. I dont need a hard drive because i have ps3 for all multimedia needs.

I would rather have the ps3 anyday, it looks good, it plays good, has amazing features and meets my needs. The sad thing is, the market does not agree with me.

Maybe sony should educate the public with these new adverts? For e.g. the wii is a rubbish console, (spec wise) it is a last generation console with a new controller, however nintendo marketed it so well and thats why its selling.

I am a great fan of playstation, it has always been been the number 1 brand associated with gaming. in the holidays, the playstation consoles were always the most sought after. This, at the moment, is not the case anymore.

adverts can only take you so far.

price of the console may not be so important (as all hardware prices come down over time), but its the difference in price of the competitor's consoles which really counts.

here in the uk xbox 360 arcade is £120, and ps3 is around £300. with that sort of price, it is little wonder why microsoft are selling so well. for a console that matches ps3's graphics but selling for less than half the price, it holds a strong selling point.

im hearing now that people are buying xbox 360 arcade (£120) and xbox 360 normal (£150) together, which works out cheaper than ps3. and using one for xbox live and one for running backups.

i have been enjoying my 60gb ps3 and its features for the last 1.5 years and would never have seen myself by xbox 360. but at that price, i just purchased one.

consumers look for best value. ps3 has the best value, however xbox 360 meets the basic gamer needs at a very cheap price. this was the thing sony feared most, their millions of ps2 owners are turning into xbox 360 owners unfortunatly.

my first ever blu ray purchase has been the dark knight...on preorder so should be getting it tomorrow morning...

this disk is not designed for ps3 game, and it can never be for the games.

these 400gb+ bluray disks are for the audio/video/pc market. e.g. personal hd-video recorders, they will take up huge amounts of data.

but this is quite intresting i think, this blu ray format seems to expandable yet mantaining compatibility...normally when a format comes out, the limit is set (vhs, cd, dvd9)...

maybe they will release saw 7 with a bonus of saw 1,2,3,4,5,6 included as extras on the blu ray disk?

i hav had to use the ps3's internet browser as my main browser for the last month (not anymore though).

we should take a second to appreciate sony's efforts. Considering what the ps2 could do and seeing what the ps3 can do, it is very impressive. I had the mouse and keyboard connected, and it has been pretty nice to use.

Unfortunately, saying the browser is better than internet explorer is just utter blindness.

There are lots and lots of compatibility and reliability issues. e.g. facebook. Security is another big problem. PS3 always has problems with higher security websites - like when shopping.

And like one guy mentioned, memory is quite an issue.

I can carry on outlining faults but i should point out that the machine is certainly powerful enough to give an absolute flawless internet browser. Sony just needs to bring some people in and sort it out. i appreciate its a work in progress, and will continue to get better over time.

bottom line is the ps3's internet browser is NOT better than internet explorer.

yeh i think its pretty obvios they are going to use some kind of cell archiecture in the next generation.key point is that ps4 will cheap considerably cheaper at launch. bluray will be standard, cell will be pretty standard. dont know about the ram because some of ps3s ram is xdr, which is still pretty advanced.ps3 stil has alot of exploit, remember people. look what the ps2 achieved after years. ps3 will produce some amazing things in the future, and then you will start to see the gap between 360 even more.launching before the competition is a good tactic. does not always work (dreamcast), but it worked for microsoft. infact it was an accident as ps3 was oringally given a may 2006 launch date, microsoft had to get ahead of it and cancelled internal hd-dvd and rushed it to the market (which xplanes the rrods)...but it worked for them.

fifa is for video game players, pro evo is for footballers.that argument still stands, and will always do. you just have to play pro evo for a few minutes to appreciate how smooth and refined it is compared to fifa.i used to be a fifa fan, but after i got my ps3, i was offered pes 2008 (new) for a very cheap price, and because all my friends play it, i thought let me see how it is.and i have to say after all these years of playing fifa on console and pc, i will only ever play pro evo games.pro evo does have its problems, alot infact to point out. but i tried the fifa 09 demo and i could see it was the same old fifa sort of game. you just dont feel as involved with the game on fifa.and about the graphics. the view that most people use doesnt mean anything for graphics, all the models are small. and while fifa 09 may be clearly better from a graphical standpoint, lets be honest, even fifa 09 is no diamond (compared to other games).do the smart thing guys, buy pro evo, u wil thank me in the long term

but, its like a directly corelated graph isnt it. ps1s power was suitable for cd, ps2s power was suitable to dvd, ps3s power is suitable to bdr in this generation. wii uses dvd because it is technically a last generation console, in terms of computing power.
