PowerUp Heroes review: Clap your hands, stomp your feet

Oct 20th 2011 11:01PM (Joystiq)
Why aren't there more super hero games for Kinect?!? The platform is perfect for the genre.

Just about any super hero game could be fun to play with Kinect.

Mimicking Captain America throwing his shield, blocking with shield. Hulk smashing stuff. Iron Man shooting beams out of hands. Wolverine slicing stuff with his claws. Spider-man shooting webs at enemies and swinging them around his head. All this stuff is really easy to to do with Kinect gestures.

Whoever owns The Avengers license needs to make a Kinect game.

Halo Anniversary adding 'Analyze Mode' with Kinect [update]

Oct 15th 2011 9:04PM (Joystiq)
Yelling "grenade" has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard since "lightsaber on." Maybe if this was an RPG where you call out choices from a huge menu of commands it would make sense. If this was a Pokemon game voice commands would be a great implementation of Kinect, but this is an FPS.

The original idea which was of questionable merit itself was that Kinect would enable you to throw the grenade with a hand gesture, not yell out "grenade." What does this bring to the game other than enabling other people in the room to grief you while you're playing a game?

Totally idiotic.

The analyze thing sounds a little more interesting.

Apple looking to add avatars to Game Center, patent filings show

Oct 13th 2011 10:17PM (Joystiq)
Apple GameCenter is so original, first they take Achievement points and don't even have the creativity to call them something different, then they take avatars.

AT&T offering credit to Uverse subscribers for Xbox Live Gold

Oct 9th 2011 4:59AM (Joystiq)
Does anyone here actually pay the full $60 for Xbox Live? If you do you seriously need to look into learning how to use this Internet thing. If you're paying more then $40 a year for XBL then you're not even looking.

Report: Microsoft in talks with Comcast, Verizon for 'Live TV' service, Samsung for TV integration [update]

Sep 21st 2011 12:13AM (Joystiq)
@MaulerX

Don't see this happening because it means Comcast would have to agree to allow you to stream FiOS TV over their broadband connection.

It would be awesome if you could just choose your TV provider from any in the country and just get it streamed over the net

@PointlessPuppies

You wanted Microsoft to launch a Hulu competitor but Hulu is a failure and Netflix is on shaky ground lately. The media companies have killed IPTV to make sure that the traditional distribution companies (cable/satellite) continue to thrive.

Microsoft is smarter to partner with the distributors rather than to compete with them. Microsoft needs to get Xbox Live embedded in these cable boxes when it becomes a streaming service like OnLive.

Verizon not talking about Xbox TV service now, but 'stay tuned'

Sep 20th 2011 10:46PM (Joystiq)
That blog post was unbearable to read. I heard "Apple" "Droid" "virtual reality" and "4G LTE" all things that have nothing whatsoever to being able to watch IPTV on my Xbox 360. I don't look forward to a borderless future where my work, play, and TV watching all exist in a virtual reality. I just want to be able to use my Xbox as a cable box so I can knock $6 off the bill and maybe change channels without a remote control.

Halo Anniversary's Kinect functionality partially explained

Sep 17th 2011 3:57AM (Joystiq)
I'm really impressed with all the stuff they are packing into this game. 3D and Kinect support were a big surprise to me. I think they could have easily charged full price for this remake. $40 is a great deal.

When I first heard about the remake I thought it would be a quick easy money grab like most re-releases are, but 343 really went above and beyond. The game looks gorgeous in both single player and multi-player. I've always wanted to go back and play through Halo 1 again and this is the perfect excuse. I'm more excited about this release than either Reach or ODST.

Report: August XBLA sales favor Fruit Ninja, Toy Soldiers

@Hoops

The lesson is smartphone games for Kinect is a good idea. Let's see some other hits like Cut the Rope and Infinity Blade from Epic Games.

Nyko Zoom for Kinect available now [update]

Sep 14th 2011 9:47PM (Joystiq)
I was set to get one of these to try out, but the reviews on Amazon are so bad that it frightened me off.

Everyone on Amazon is saying that it doesn't work at all. Which is strange because every game site I go to says that it works.
