I don't think its that bad because it makes the game more realistic. There are ads everywhere in real -life and you really can't get away from them. Most of the time Massive ads don't get in the way and are usually just in-game billboards and such.
They really should pass the savings on to the consumer though. For example, by offering free DLC for any game with ads. Much like Burnout: Paradise did.
