Nov 16th 2009 3:26PM (Joystiq)Nathan Drake beyond Lara Croft's popularity?
Jan 20th 2009 6:41AM (Joystiq)Lara Croft was basically an icon. She was one of the principal characters that sold the original PlayStation. She had a hollywood movie. Had a slot in a U2 concert and whatever else.
Put it this way, ask the average person who Lara Croft is and there is a chance they'll know. Ask the average person who Drake Fortune is they'll have no idea.
Now, Lara is on the wane, I'll admit that, but a waning icon is still more popular the a man in a videogame known only to gamers.
Lara Croft claims to be an archaeologist
Nov 9th 2008 2:40PM (Joystiq)She can actually do a lot of that gymnastic shit, albeit now while being chased by tigers and firing a pistol.

The trouble is, it may not be enough. I'm sad to say it's all too easy to encounter people who have had this value. They've played games for months if not years. Had productive communities they've formed and been involved in for years. All based on PC games none of them have paid for. These are often people with plenty of income. I know these people exist.
One interesting experience (though this isn't the only way I encounter them) was WoW, as it was probably the first MMO to see an influx of FPS players. One thing way too many people said was WoW was the first game they'd paid for in ages as they copied everything else. This was despite the fact they formed guilds and communities around them that lasted years. And they still didn't want to pay 30 GBP for that.
There is a good number of people who just don't believe they should pay.

Jun 26th 2008 4:26PM (Joystiq)Heed Totilo's warning -- keep a late Mass Effect save to play new DLC
Feb 10th 2008 3:41AM (Joystiq)As was originally sold, the idea was we would have Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3. Each would be like a grand movie like the episodes in Star Wars. The first Mass Effect game lives up to this admirably.
The DLC were sold as like continuation of the content between episodes. Therefore, in my mind I thought I would be able to play the DLC as mini-episodes, sort of self-packaged, that I can play in a continuation fashion post-credits of Mass Effect. As that's the point, they are mini-episodes that take place between Mass Effect 1 and 2.
This makes me feel more like it's content added to a game I've already played.
Yes, I still get to play it, but it feels more forced, a bit odd, and things would have felt more powerful if it truely felt like an 'extra chunk of story' taking place post-Mass Effect but pre-Mass Effect 2.
Zero Punctuation affected by Mass Effect's verbiage
Dec 20th 2007 4:18AM (Joystiq)As for the 'in game' loading most times it happens in like 1-2 seconds and then things continue. It doesn't seem to be a big a problem for me as it is for other people.
Maybe my 360 is being fed steroids.
