Ask Joystiq Xbox: Orbital Drop Sticker Shock edition

The wireless bridge really isn't difficult to set up. I don't know what these guys are smoking, but I want some. Routers are pretty easy to work with, and any problem you have is just a google search away from resolution.

Can your grandma who thinks the internet disappeared when she deleted her IE shortcut do it? No, probably not. But if you can do things like build a computer, install an OS, read, use the potty, you should be fine.

DD-WRT has a full-featured wiki of its own, and Lifehacker has posted on this method several times.

Yeah I'll second that one.

Any of those damn articles, lists, etc where you need to click through a slideshow to read the content. It sort of makes sense for a picture-only slideshow, but that's about it. Nothing will make me decide not to read a "Top 10" list faster than seeing I need to click through 10 different pages, with a paragraph in each.

Actually, come to think of it, I think X3F did that with their recent "best of the year" lists. Despicable.

Fanboy alert.

He actually specifically mentioned we should leave the command prompt stuff alone.

Ken Lally confirms voice work for Call of Duty 6

Dude, COD4 was an incredible game. If you don't like it, fine, but to say it was a cop-out (and to spell it incorrectly, at that) is dismissive and condescending. It's a great game (and, by the way, so is Halo).

I've never played Shadowrun, so I don't have too much input there. If you like it, great. If it was groundbreaking and genre-forming, great. Still though, you seem to have this arrogant belief that popularity immediately makes a game bad; that if it appeals to the masses it is somehow inferior. Maybe it's good for a game to be fun and accessible.

Don't get me wrong man: play whatever games you enjoy most. I'm just saying that discrediting games that are clearly entertaining and successful is a little odd. And yeah, the name-dropping thing is abrasive too.

Yeah, I mean that's fair enough (I'll ignore the personal insult); Activision does take longer to release their games. It's not fair to hate on Treyarch, because the games are pretty good for the resources and time they have available.

Of course, I would say that taking their time and releasing truly well-rounded games is a plus for IW, not a mark against them. I guess ultimately the problem lies with Activision: they need to whore our their franchise so they can make money off it at least once per year.

I would rather wait and get a quality game every few years than get some rushed-to-market crap every year.

I will point out though that it's not fair to say IW makes "carbon copied" games. COD4 was a major step forward and a completely new direction for the franchise. The Treyarch games are much more formulaic than anything IW has done.

This game will be sweet. The Treyarch games are a pile of suck, but Infinity Ward has their act together. So all you people saying they are releasing too many games too close together: just ignore any and all Treyarch releases, and things will be just about right.

360 WiFi adapter for $69 this Sunday on Buy.com

Jan 16th 2009 1:32PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I try to point this out whenever a story about this adapter comes up: it is unnecessary!

You can buy a wireless router for well under $50 and install DD-WRT, or Tomato, or another custom firmware on it. It's easy, and there is plenty of how-to advice online. Then, you set that bad boy up as a wireless bridge, connect your 360 ethernet to it, and bam. Wireless internet on the 360, for less than 50 bucks.

I've been using this method for many months now and have yet to run into anything more than typical XBL lag.
