The 25 Best Action Movies

Jan 20th 2010 1:58PM (Moviefone Blog)
Braveheart??!? Seriously??? First, I loved that movie. Second, I am a huge action movie fan. But if I am in an "Action Movie" mood, Braveheart would be about the last thing I would put in. WAAAAAY too much thinking and plot and having to pay attention.

A good hallmark of a great action flick is that you should be able to turn it on at any point in the film and within 2 minutes be going, "Oh hell no!!" Braveheart has freaking hours of politics and marital negotiations. Seriously, big fail on anyone who would put that on the list. Lord of the Rings is even a bit much.

Biker in Florida Pulled Over for Wearing a Gladiator Helmet

Jan 15th 2010 2:20PM (Asylum)
Come on, give the cop a break. He couldn't write a ticket for "lamest @ss thing I have seen a person wear out side of halloween or some freaky fetish site" so he had to go with what was available to him.

But truth be told, that "helmet" certainly is a crime of some nature. Maybe if his mom would have just bought him that Power Ranger's helmet in the fourth grade he wouldn't be having these issues now.

Ubisoft putting up $10M in Shaun White Snowboarding ads

Oh, and on the jaggiez jihad...first, you find me a human eye and brain that can tell the difference between 10K and 20K polys and then MAYBE this will be a meaningful conversation.

Not even going to get all old school here (I remember when 'swaying arms while walking animation' was a technological selling point) and just note...Tetris? Ka-Glom? (I play it on blackberry, but would guess there are other distros out there). Those games, which can suck up years of your life, have 2 shapes and 16 colors and they are still some of the best games ever written.
The whole graphics soapbox needs to die.

...well, maybe. You can almost always pick out the weenie haning out with the gearheads because he is the one all mushy over the decals and rims while not being able to tell you what a carborator does. I take it back, keep up the really meaningful discussion.

Really? I am more jazzed about this game over any other on the horizon. I mean, yah I will get Fable II, but it isn't marked on my calendar.

Saun White is definately on there! Now, I know this is mostly personal opinion, not trying to make a claim of what will be better or what won't.

But, come on! A snowboarding game with Havok and the Assassin's Creed engine? Player stats and gear that affects play? Different kinds of snow and ice (Havok baby!) and appropriate effects on gameplay? Just watching the gameplay and seeing how the camera works, I was like "ok...why was every other developer of a 'follow behind' camera system a masochist bastard who wanted to drive me insane??"

And a real boarder having impact on design. I don't even snowboard, but I *still* pop in Amped 2 every now and then and I really couldn't be more jazzed about this game. Even more than Skate. 2, because I have Skate. for my pavement sessions, it will be nice to have a competant snowboarding game.

De Blob dev cautious about WiiMotion Plus

Sep 24th 2008 3:26PM (Joystiq)
I am torn...I have found that I don't really like the Wii. Not because its "kiddie" or any of that nonsense. But because I always have this nagging tick at the back of my mind that it is not interpretting my input correctly.

When I play a golf game with a gamepad, after maybe 6-12 swings I get the feeling of it and can from there on do what I want without too much worrying about the power guage.

With the Wii, after a full year, every single golf swing feels like a random affair and I have never, ever "gotten the feel". Maybe that's just me, but the prompt asked for my opinon so...

I think the WM+ will just heighten this psychological hichup. Now I will be caught in the mental conundrum, "Really? But I did the swing exaclty the same as last time...or I thought I did...is it reading my actions right...and now I have the WM+, am I just unable to swing my arm in a regular fasion...CRAP! I swung that exactly the same as last time!...or I thought I did...and I have the WM+..."

Yah, re-reading that I have to move closer to "probably just me."

Ultimate Fighter Finale: Amir Sadollah Won the First Time, but Everyone Picks C.B. Dollaway

Jun 24th 2008 12:30PM (MMA Fighting)
Making the rounds to every forumn, blog and feedback I can to ask every single one of you dinkberries...tell me again how CB is the "better fighter"??!?

HAHAHA. You all have completely forgotten so much about martial arts, human character...,have gotten so full of yourselves and your 'experts', etc, etc.

Yes, I went into that fight with my hands in front of my eyes and a cringe on my face, fearful of what Amir would look like at the end. But I still would have NEVER bet on CB and in the end THE BETTER FIGHER won. Because, he is the warrior. Yah, all star, pro-blah-blah, nice training facility... Go back to the it CB. For awhile, those of us out here who value character and spirit have taken the day. And for once, the 'official' record reflects the universal one.

(and he even whined about not *really* tapping...priceless...well, have other places to go gloat)

Ghostbusters dev: Xbox 360 is holding us back

Apr 30th 2008 1:38PM (Joystiq)
"The PlayStation 3 has seven processors and the 360 only has three, so seven versus three means you can do a lot more on the PS3."

Wow...just freaking wow...I will cut the guy some slack noting he is a business person (president) and therefore very likely had no idea what he was talking about before he started the statement.

But it has been a very, very, VERY long time since I have seen such an inane and ignorant comment from someone like this. Now, I see kiddies on the forumns all the time talking about GHz and pipelines and it is obvious they are pretty clueless and are simply copy-n-pasting stuff from some other source. But for the official head of a company to put this out as if it was some meaningful and compelling "point". Wow...just wow.

I would love to sell this guy a system:
Yes sir. 2.2 Ghz dual core. Best of the best.

...of course, it has 64 megs of ram, 16bit video card, and a 8 Mb modem...but you can still tap that tower, look at yo' boys and say "2.2 Ghz dual core bee-otches!"

For the record, yes, I comprehend that the PS3 has 'more horsepower', not my point at all. My point is that this is akin to the head of Nike coming out and saying, "How many treads does Rebock have? 20. We have 60 baby, so we are obviously superior!"

GamesforHeroes.com seeks handheld games and systems for troops

Apr 9th 2008 1:37PM (Joystiq)
First, my position: I despise the Iraq war. It was a criminal act...wait it *is* a criminal operation and I think the president and several others down the line should not be impeached, but arrested and tried for their crimes against this nation and its people.

I also think that any jackwad that pulls "terrorism" from his wah-zoo when the topic gets brought up should immediately be ejected from the conversation for being far to simplistic, ignorant and/or neive to contribute to the topic in any meaningful way.

That being said, I would be the first (edited per 'no attacks' TOS) the likes of Mills and Boom, had I the oppertunity. And I would love someone to take Chris Langston out of his simple little life and have him walk in someone else's shoes for the 30 seconds he could handle it before breaking down and curling up into a fetal position.

First, none of these men and women are "murders" and you should be utterly ashamed for even suggesting it. That is the most disturbing and down-right revolting thing I have read in a very, very long time. Yes, these poor guys and gals are being used. Yes, they are being ordered to commit criminal acts and to act in a manner that is counter-productive to our nation's well being. And you know what? I almost tear up when I think about how lucky I am to have these people who are willing to do this.

It is their sole commitment and obligation to follow the orders given to them. As long as they have followed those order, your labels of "murder" belong somewhere else far, far away. And to suggest that these people somehow has it easy and this effort to get them games is somehow benefitting the benefitted. Man, the ignorance.

When I get home tonight I will be rounding up my kids and collecting all the forgotten handhelds. After I again tell them how horrendous and terrible and unforgiveable this war is, I will teach to them why we should find the greatest joy in sending our soldiers something small and silly that will in some small way make at least one of their days a teeny bit easier.

Guitar Hero: Beatles Edition a possibility

Mar 18th 2008 5:40PM (Joystiq)
The music that they were so heralded for was the same stuff that Pink Floyd, The Stones, and Jimi and the Experience

One of those rare cases were you agree with someone's point but are utterly flaberghasted by their supporting arguments. You just put Floyd and Hendrix in the same category?? And then lumped the Stones and the Beetles in with them??!?! No offense, but this is the most musically-ignorant (not flaming, using term specifically) thing I have heard in a LONG time. Hendrix and Waters could not really be more disimilar on more levels. Stones and Floyd??!?! Wow...

That being said, he is right! :)

The Beetles are, in my opinion, the single most overrated band in history. They were mediocre musicians that wrote, at times, good tunes. But someone like Presely, who was the only guy trying to tell white America how stupid they were being for discounting "black music" is far, far, FAR more significant historically (and in general I prefer Beetles tunes to Presely tunes...this isn't about 'like').

They were simply the right guys in the right place at the right time. Had it not been these particular four dudes, it would have been someone else who was the first Rock-n-Roll 'super stars'.

Circling back fully to on-topic. If I listed 1000 songs that would be cool on GH, there would not be a single Beetles tune...except maybe While My Guitar Gently Weeps just because...there guitar work is, at times, down-right boring to be blunt. It was the composition that made their music intriguing at points.

Now, RB makes a LOT of sense to me. I don't know a guitar player (no rock god, but have hung out with many) that would put Lennon, McCarthy or Harison in their "tops". But Beck, Hendrix, Page...if we are going back to 'that era' then these are the guys that GH hero was designed to emulate and celebrate. Of course Rock Band should have tunes from one of the most popular bands of all time (and they could exploit some of those composition tricks to good result). But leave Guitar Hero for...well, the heros of the guitar...

Virtual Jihadi mod causing tension at New York school

Mar 4th 2008 5:14PM (Joystiq)
"Saddam a Jihadi?"
Wee-bit of reading would do us all a huge benefit.

And we need many, many, MANY more things like this. One of the hallmark moments of my teenage development was reading Alls Quiet on the Western Front and the dawning on me about a 1/4 to 1/3 through the book that these were *German* soldiers. It was a watershed experience for me.

Only enlightenment and understanding can come out of looking at a situation from someone else's point of view (which is precisely why the conservatives are terrified of the practice and instead threaten of "sympathy" and other such assininity). Of course, forcing me to play an Elite did nothing but foster a seething hatred for them, so much that I would have turned and joined the Brutes if I could do it as the Cheif, so perhaps I am hoping for too much.

And based on the still-mired-in-utter-cowardice-and-disturbing-ignorance response of the college republicans, I likely am.

Still, nothing but a net gain will be appreciated from more and divergent views.
