Sony's Geometry Wars (and other e-Distributed titles) leaked

Oct 17th 2006 8:04PM (Joystiq)
lefty, if chatting across games and not having to wait a few minutes to check your inbox are worth 50 bucks a year, (or $250 over the life of the console) to you, then by all means, enjoy.

Me on the other hand, I will use the $250 to get a premium PS3, which will also get me a larger harddrive, better graphics, Wifi, a next generation Blu-Ray drive for ultra-detailed game worlds + Blu-Ray movies(!), FullHD 1080p video output, TrueHD lossless 7.1 surround sound, whisper quiet operation, and a full featured Linux distro with firefox, media players, emulators, bittorrent clients, etc. etc. etc. All that without even mentioning that I will gain access to a vastly superior and more diverse game library.

Not hard to see who's getting the better deal in this scenario (hint: Its not the guy who can't wait 5 minutes to check his inbox!)

Sony's Geometry Wars (and other e-Distributed titles) leaked

Oct 17th 2006 7:26PM (Joystiq)
LOLOL Wheres all the xbots who said sony would never have the downloadable content and network like live? Sounds like they managed just fine, on their first try, with a FREE network.

Now what will M$ do, 360 has and will continue to be be a *COLLOSAL* failure, selling worse than both Dreamcast and Xbox1 did in their first years, WITH NO COMPETITON!. This console generation is turning out to be a *NIGHTMARE* for M$, not only have they failed to capitalize on Sony's gaffes, they have failed to increase their market penetration from last gen, and now face being steamrolled by the seemingly unstoppable PS3 juggernaut, with Wii brining up the rear to mop up the scraps.

To M$'s credit though, I'm sure they will stay in the fight, theoretically at least (like they are right now in Japan), and just wait until next gen, when they'll try to throw enough money around to monopolize the video game market again.

Engadget HD giveaways: NeoDigits Helios X3000

I am streaming content over wireless to a wireless bridge hooked up to a modded xbox running XBMC 2.0! Its an amazing setup, but I need my 1080P streaming!

PS3 bitten by Yellow Dog Linux

Oct 17th 2006 5:34PM (Joystiq)
This will be what makes the PS3 so awesome, homebrow software out the wazoo - everything you can think of, full featured web browsers, flash support, java support, youtube/web video support, torrent tracker, media players for all major formats, emulators for all past consoles/mame/cps2, this thing is going to turn into a modded xbox on sterioids (minus the pirated games)!! I can't wait!

Analyst: Xbox 360 sales solid but "lackluster"

Oct 17th 2006 1:15AM (Joystiq)
Evan is correct. At best, GoW and Halo 3 sell 5 million systems. Then what? Nothing, thats what. 360 is dead in the water with less than 15 million units sold, while Sony marches on towards 100 million like last gen, and Wii eventually passes it.

EA charging gamers to access unlockable content

Oct 16th 2006 11:13PM (Joystiq)
This is seriously lame as hell, like others have said, this stuff was always unlockable with a code if you're too lazy to get it like a man. Now we're going to pay? I hope every one who cheerleads for Live is happy, these microtransactions are another 'innovation' (almost as good as paying for online play) brought to us my M$. Sure, other companies may follow suit, but before M$ did it, they would have been ashamed to try such a scheme, now, they see that a fair amount of Live subscribers are willing to pay, and since M$ is already doing it, there's no reputation hit to them for going the same way.

Analyst: Xbox 360 sales solid but "lackluster"

Oct 16th 2006 11:02PM (Joystiq)
So let me get this straight:

- M$ has dumped collossal amounts of money into pushing 360, buying out anyone who can't defend themselves, and paying off developers for exclusives

- 360 is in a worse position than Dreamcast at this point in its life

- 360 is in a worse position than xbox 1 in at this point in its life

In other words, 360 has been a *COLLOSAL* failure. This console generation is turning out to be a *NIGHTMARE* for M$, not only have they failed to capitalize on Sony's gaffes, they have failed to increase their market penetration from last gen, andnow face being steamrolled by the seemingly unstoppable PS3 juggernaut, with Wii brining up the rear to mop up the scraps.

To M$'s credit though, I'm sure they will stay in the fight, theoretically at least (like they are right now in Japan), and just wait until next gen, when they'll try to throw enough money around to monopolize the video game market again.

Famitsu publisher predicts scalable PS3 as next-gen victor

Oct 13th 2006 8:19PM (Joystiq)
I think the Japanese are just more realistic about it, they have seen all the closed door demos of the PS3, and the best the 360 has to offer. That is why they come away iwth the conclusion that even M$'s next generation console, Xbox1080 or whatever it will be called, will have a hard time matching the PS3, all thanks to Sony's forward thinking investments in the Cell processor. Its been said on here many times, and I'll say it again, the American businesses think about how to win now, how to make the most $$$ now, whereas the Japanese think many years down the road, strategically. The Japanese gamers, the most sophisticated, discerning gamers in the world, recognize this, and this is why they go with Sony.

I think Xbots are just delusional on this one, desperately trying to avoid facing the truth. I mean, here we have probably the most important video game critic in the world, completely impartial, coming out and saying this, and yet they still can't face reality.

We wait for Wii (Philly downtown edition)

Oct 13th 2006 5:41PM (Joystiq)
LOL Those passerby comments summed it up perfectly. Even after all the puff pieces Ninty has bought, the average joe (you know, the one who is going to drive Ninty's 'revolution') could still care less, and is only interested in the PS3. Only the hardcore Ninty fans are excited...

Now imagine when Joe Sixpack or Peggy Punchclock walks into a store to buy a system, sees the PS3 and 360 with amazing graphics, and then sees the Wii with stick men playing tennis.... "hmmmm those graphics really suck he/she says to herself, there must be something more to it, I'll give it a shot". (S)he then tried to play, only to finds that not only do the graphics suck, but (s)he can't even control the stickman's movement!!! (S)he is basically just waving her arms around trying to hit the ball in a digital equivalent to wack-a-mole, with crappy graphics to boot? What system do you think (s)he's going to choose?

PS3's Oblivion will come to Xbox 360 and PC too

Oct 13th 2006 4:59PM (Joystiq)
Sigh, looks like M$ threw a bunch more money at the developers, probably even threatened them with a hostile takeover.

And LMFAO at the people who think Oblivion will come to Wii... Maybe if they use the stick figure 'miis' for all the characters, make the ground/sky a flat plane with a blurry texture, and remove all the lighting! Then again, that kiddy style would probably appeal to Ninty fans.
