Motorola turns Droid X's source code loose -- some of it, anyhow

Aug 2nd 2010 7:46PM (Engadget Mobile)
@KompressorV12 You sound like an idiot and this is coming from an android fan and developer. No one ever said the Droid X would brick if you rooted it. They said it would brick if you try to install custom firmware or alter the bootloader. It is still the case that the phone will be stuck in recovery and completely unusable if you try to do either of those things. Please crawl back into your hole and don't come back out until you do some reading or better yet go buy an iPhone and join the rest of the uninformed masses.

HTC Hero won't see upgrade to Android 2.1 until June, at least in Europe

I don't know the situation with villian rom because I'm CDMA but when I went from the Fresh 1.5 roms to the Fresh 2.1 or the DamageControl 2.1 Roms my phone didn't slow down at all. If anything it got a little smoother. We have the same hardware in our phones so I don't see any reason why your 2.1 roms can't be made just as fast.

@Luxury Guy

You must be illiterate and blind to think that the 2.1 roms on XDA are buggy. We have had fully functional releases for more than two months. Go look at Fresh 2.0d or the newest DamageControl and tell me 1 think that isn't working on the Hero with those roms. On top of all that they are much faster than the stock 2.1.

You must be doing something wrong. All the roms I've run from XDA have been way faster than any stock android. Granted I have a Sprint Hero but that really shouldn't make a difference. My 2.1 is 100% working and bug free with crazy speed. On top of that they just released a mostly functional rom with the ability to overclock to 768 mhz. The only reason it's not 100% is because it uses the .27 kernel to enable overclocking. If you want to see a really fast Hero then flash that rom and check it out.

Sprint says Android 2.0 coming to Hero and Moment first half of next year

@jbacon617 The Hero 2.0 rom is FAR FAR FAR from fully functional on the xda boards. The G1/MY3G rom is working great because the rom has all the drivers and the correct radio for the GSM phones.

@DizWARE No, Unix is not the "shell" behind Linux. Linux was written from scratch, started by Linus Torvalds as a free/open replacement for Unix which was to expensive for everyone to use. Don't chime in and try to correct people when you know next to nothing about the subject.
