Report: Sony's PSN servers were up to date
May 9th 2011 7:49PM (Joystiq)there's a difference between a server and a firewall :/ besides that sony themselves admitted it wasn't up to date by saying it was a known vulnerability and they themselves didn't know it....

Anonymous members say Sony attacks were 'likely' connected to movement
May 7th 2011 7:22PM (Joystiq)is a cop who leaves the keys in the cell door and walks away asking for it? why yes yes he is. it was Sony's responsibility to protect our data the fact that you would protect them when they had unpatched firewalls for months with publicly known exploits just says your a fanboy. Obviously the hackers are bad people, that's a given but to say that Sony's not at fault for this is ludicrous.

Canadian firm proposes class action against Sony to the tune of $1B in damages
May 4th 2011 5:09PM (Joystiq)"Also present at the press conference was Chief Information Officer Shinji Hasejima, who revealed that the attack actually exploited a “known vulnerability” in the web application server platform used in PSN. According to the Reg, Hasejima admitted that though it was generally known, Sony management were not aware of it. To that end, the company has created a new role of ‘chief information security officer’ in an effort to prevent history repeating itself. Hasejimi refused requests for more information on the server platform used, or the vulnerability exploited, for security reasons."
