Epic: We aren't planning on any Wii projects

Oct 6th 2007 6:39PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I wonder if this is his personal opinion or professional opinion. If Mark Rein was not in charge of Epic, I wonder if they'd still make the same decision...

To be fair though, he's already made his views perfectly clear. Now he's just coming off as a fanboy.

Also, just one more thing: he says that the big dollars are being earned from 360 and PS3. How would he know there's none to be earned from the Wii, if he has had no experience in selling stuff based on it?

Nintendo's competitors cut prices, but Wii stays same great price

Jul 9th 2007 4:54PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Well, to be fair, it's not like the Wii needs to. With the demand for Wii still being fairly strong, they can continue selling Wii's at the same price, at least until they're more available. It's also not like Nintendo can fall back on something else - they're only a console maker. Sony is a multimedia giant and Microsoft has the PC market.

In the end, we have to decide what's more important, getting a console cheaper or ensuring that Nintendo continues to do what it does best - making games.

Behold 'Sacred Digital Guidelines' by the Church of England

Jul 6th 2007 7:48PM (Joystiq)
I know I'm going to be rather unpopular for saying this but,

I think an apology from Sony isn't enough. The game is already out there. If they were truely sorry, they would remove it from store shelves. Either that or remove/remake the level/story to prevent continued infringement. Heck, if a copyright for a film was infringed, they'd sure as hell make a fuss about that! Likewise, they have enough money to put into the pot of the Cathedral without breaking the bank.

Those guidelines seem fine to me.

I also feel that joystiq has an obvious, justifiable bias here.

Besides, Sony has already admitted they used it without permission...

In Defense of the Virtual Console's pricing

Mar 16th 2007 8:25PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
To be honest, I haven't really bought any yet.

Although I do think that having to pay (albiet an artificially inflated price), means that I'm more compelled to get my money's worth out of the game. If they were free, I wouldn't really be bothered about beating the games.

I have to admit though, I would have prefered some more modded games, games capable of online play, or even extra levels etc... Then at least the Nintendo loyalists (like myself) whom still own older Nintendo hardware would be able to buy something more updated.

Wii not even remotely region-free

Sep 16th 2006 10:17AM (Joystiq)
Since when did Nintendo CONFIRM that their console was region-free? If I recall correctly, they said they were thinking of it. Personally, I don't import, and I think there are tonnes of people out there that don't import either. Those that do import, probably do it on such a regular basis that they'd get games and the Wii console from elsewhere anyway.

Compare lack of region coding (and the uslessness of it) along with any other disappointments to Sony's Europe release date slip along with the amount of consoles on launch. Let's not forget that not much actual in-game footage has been released via trailers and such. Who are the most dishonest? A company that allows people to speculate (sometimes comes off as "reliable info", but hardly ever is) to a company that promises one thing, and consistently fails to meet it's own standards.

Ye, I'm a Nintendo fan, but there's also a lot of Sony fans here. Call me a fanboy if you like, but in the end, only fanboys argue with other fanboys.

An apology, and a note on hype

Sep 8th 2006 8:53AM (Joystiq)
i found this really quite funny. It's always funny when people speculate and hype the news up themselves, and when things are released they give themselves the anti-climax. Ok, so the "Major" didn't help, but most of the comments were speculating industry-shattering importance. Personally, I don't think joystiq should apologise. I think all those people that posted negative comments because they were winding themselves up should apologise. They're acting like spoilt brats because they "didn't get what they want for christmas".

Besides, no matter what the news was, there would always be some negative feedback. It just so happens that most of the negative comments came from Sony fanboys and MS fans (I won't call them fanboys because they should be given more respect than what the name infers here). Personally, I like the news. While it wasn't "industry shattering", it was insightful.

Major next-gen console news coming tonight [update 1]

Sep 7th 2006 7:54PM (Joystiq)
Well, this is very exciting. Since it'll be announced "eastern time", I'm guessing it isn't anything to do with outside Japan (that is that the news won't be originating from America). This leaves Sony and Nintendo.

My guess: Either PlayStation will not launch at all/Krazy Ken stands down or Wii news of some sort. Fingers crossed for the latter.
