The beginner's guide to JRPGs

Dec 23rd 2011 3:34PM (Joystiq)
Good call on FFVI! Growing up, it was always FF3 to me, and it was FANTASTIC! For as much credit as FF7 gets as the paramount of Final Fantasy games, FF3 has always been my favorite. FF2 (or FFIV in Japan) was also fantastic. Both games had so many characters with unqiue abilities, the leveling system wasn't overly complicated, and the stories were epic before epic became cliche. (Note: Epic end-of-the-world stories are still not cliche to me, but they seem to be for other people.)

Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana were also totally fantastic., and I freely admit to enjoying Super Mario RPG. :-)

Side note: I never realised how hard the original Final Fantasy was until I tried to go back and play it as an adault. Why was it so much easier when i was little?

Chaos Rings for iPhone looks like a real RPG

I have to wonder how big a game like this is. FF7 was several CD's, and this seems more complicated than that. So it could conceivably be pretty big (1GB or more) - an important thing to keep in mind for a device with a fixed amount of space that also acts as a PMP.

@BergerFan

Speaking of MAME, this whole interface reminds me of a MAME front-end called 3D Arcade. Makes me wonder where MS got the idea...

You're just LOOKING for something to complain about, aren't you?

They make bikes more practical for the average rider. So more people are likely to use them. Are you going to tell me that solar powered bike is somehow a BAD thing?

@pguy316

I said "WebOS" (software). I never said "Pre" or "Pixi" (hardware). Learn how to read...

As for the actual content of your comment, I'm not even going to dignify it with a response...

Metareview: Final Fantasy XIII

It's because some review sources are platform-dependent (Playstation magazine, etc.) so their reviews are only applied towards the iteration of a game on that particular platform.

I'm digging the feature set, but that's a lot of money for anything coming out of Aiptek.

Agreed. I've never liked it. Sounds like a toy instead of a tool.
