Vita's AT&T data-plan pricing structure pulls a switcheroo

Jan 23rd 2012 12:13AM (Joystiq)
@saintrick

I miss the point of that completely. Why buy 3G on the vita then? You can't use it to play online, you can't get apps on it like textplus, from what I hear the web browser is inexcusably bad, so what's left?

I'd honestly rather just buy a 4G mobile hotspot and carry it in my pocket, at least with that you have no restrictions and depending on your area, good enough latency and bandwidth to play anything online.

Report: Twisted Metal to include PSN Pass

@BlazeKing

what the hell is the point of that? Why would they need to temporarily disable the original owner's copy? THE DISK IS REQUIRED TO PLAY is it not? The other person already can't play if he loaned it out to a friend. This isn't like PC where people can install the game files, get a no-cd fix or a virtual cd, then hand the disk over for someone else to do the same and never need the disk to run the game again.

They don't care about you or your friends, they care about making profit off of used game sales and complicating what used to be a simple put in the disk and play console experience and the more people accept it the worse it's going to get.

Zynga's paid $300 per new user in the past nine months, says analyst

"So what's the solution? "Zynga will have to find their next FarmVille,""

Uh, no, they just need to spend way less in advertising. If your advertising is costing you 130 million USD for a casual game on facebook then your doing it wrong.

Kojima's Project Ogre takes place in an open world

Is that supposed to look like him? It's not even close, the entire facial structure is way off, his posture is way off, and I doubt that guy has anywhere near that shape of upper body.

Steam's Holiday Sale discounts everything ever, gives gifts, games and coal

Dec 20th 2011 12:12AM (Joystiq)
Well I may have just spent a few hundred on games, but alas the steam servers won't load a single page no matter how long I wait. I guess they don't want my money.. Oh well.

What motion controls could do for JRPGs

Dec 16th 2011 8:54PM (Joystiq)
@bittermang

I think the wii's biggest downfall was using a slow, inaccurate and jumpy IR sensor when there is, and was far better technology for motion tracking.

I own a Wii, it never sees use, and every time I try to play a game on it I end up quitting within minutes due to frustration of how SLOW the IR tracking is, it should never have been used as a gaming peripheral.

But this is by no means a comparison to other console's motion tracking, I have never used a Kinect nor the PS Move, but I do play games like NOVA 2 on iOS and find that using motion tracking for aiming is extremely accurate and responsive, almost 1 to 1. And maybe this is because I've played FPS's on PC since the days of Quake, UT.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC shut down

No, stalker games are amazing. I love that the series never tried to simplify it's core gameplay for the sake of accessibility, You could love the game, or hate the game, it depends on how you played it and whether you took smart approaches to things or dumb ones and died so much you got frustrated.

I like that the game wasn't created with the limitations of the consoles in mind, and the fact that stalker 2 may not ever be released now is tragic. Granted I still don't believe the news, but I guess I'll know soon enough.

Sony still holding out hope for Flash support on Vita

Dec 4th 2011 10:56AM (Joystiq)
@Ballistic H

Hmm I guess your right, and by that logic 3D games like Real Racing 2, Infinity blade, NOVA etc. should be banned because well, they're resource hogs.

No, that's not a viable excuse, they can always do what my jailbroken ipod can do and what the PSP did, have a setting in the device's settings menu where YOU can choose to turn flash on/off and decide whether the battery life hit is worth it for you.

EA: Online Pass can expire for new-game purchases, but it shouldn't

Dec 3rd 2011 7:05PM (Joystiq)
@PR0F3TA

No, the only dlc ive ever bought for a game was a few track packs for rockband on the xbox360.

And i've said this all along, it's the consumer's fault. 60$ games, dlc, online passes, paying to play p2p online (xbox live), it's all the consumer's fault.

And for pc gamers, dlc has killed user content and modding. Publishers are so afraid of user content killing their dlc sales that they've stopped making mod tools, they've started locking out servers and making excuses. Dedicated Modders and mappers don't need special dumbed down tools, they just need proper access to the game's files, so when companies like activision lock out their content and claim that mod support is on it's way, then announce that it will be available after the game is essentially dead and done with it's waves of dlc, well you should get the idea of why.

Sony still holding out hope for Flash support on Vita

Dec 3rd 2011 6:44PM (Joystiq)
@killerjuice

That's the thing, flash has been around for a long time and for independant content creators who make flash games, banners, video players etc, it's what they know how to use. I see nothing wrong with flash, and i don't see why flash and javascript can't co exist. More sites use it than html5 by a significant margin, refusing to support it just because apple doesn't like it lowering their web browsing battery life statistics is rediculous.

Even my jailbroken ipod touch 4g has full flash, and for 90% of the web's content it works just perfect. Mobile devices are getting more powerful than desktops were a few years ago, so why is supporting flash such a concern for new hardware when it wasn't on old android devices and even the psp 1000.
