Not quite. Most Gamestop customers are in their 30s-40s and are parents with kids. I DOUBT they know what planking is let alone want to walk into a store where employees are goofing off while on the clock.
For that reason you would have more of a chance seeing someone complain about this guy, then be amused by his behavior if they witnessed it.
Some people can never blame themselves for their mistakes.
Leaving a safe open is dangerous for your store. It's not to be looked at lightly, because it could attract attention from the wrong people and your store could be targeted for robberies. You basically place yourself and your employees in harms way due to your own mistake but you can't admit it. You just act like it isn't a big deal to victimize yourself.
Anyone would have been fired for the same thing I guarantee. But you were probably on the chopping block and you gave them a good enough reason to let you go. These things happen.
Yeah...that's so right. Someone losing their job really has to do with Gamestops love for gamers. Who does care for gamers then? What retail establishment cares for anything other then making money?
I swear you sound like a lonely man. Wanting a store to truly 'care' for you.
It's more like he worked at Gamestop for five years probably because he lacks any real motivation, or had a manager that kept him around for whatever reason.
It's not the company that didn't promote this guy. He must not have been worth promoting, and stayed at Gamestop so he could get a discount. It's actually pretty easy to move up in Gamestop as long as you meet your goals.
I'd feel sorry for the company that promotes someone like this who would make such an ignorant and unprofessional decision.
Glad to see some intelligent people replying to this topic. It's a corporate call. If they didn't fire this guy, then where would the line be drawn.
People act like these types of decisions are anything new.
I love how the actual post claims that this guy is getting fired for the act of planking, when that obviously isn't the case. Just more fuel to flame the fans of joystiq who despise Gamestop.
Store managers and employees don't affect trade in credit. That would be the company itself changing trade in prices. ALL stores have the same offers for credit.
You would say that your "friends" were a good fit for the company just because they enjoyed their job. But that isn't exactly how businesses are ran. Unfortunately businesses like to meet goals and make profit. It's not about having fun with a JOB. Just because it is Gamestop it makes no difference.
I agree with Steve. Everyone defending this guy is mainly doing so to paint the company as more of an evil corporation. This guy had to have been already deemed unfit for the company. He's planking anyway, which I would deem the worst trend of this year so far.
But even if he wasn't, he AND his coworker violated policy by taking pictures within the store(posting them online too), not working while on the clock, and putting themselves in harms way. Wouldn't surprise me that he wasn't what the company wants in it's people. And for all you who complain about Gamestop stores. I can't tell you that any retail store is any better with service. At least you get someone engaging you in some fashion at a Gamestop. Walmart and bestbuy could care less where you spend your money. And if your Gamestop sucks, that tends to happen when you pay people minimum wage, but go to another store and stop complaining.
