Passage is a lifetime in five minutes

Go down immediately at the start of the game and then start traveling right. You won't meet the girl, thus you can navigate and explore faster/easier. There is a plethora of choice in this 400k game.

I modified the gameart so that the tombstones looked like lollipops.

And for those of you remarking that going right doesn't make a game...try pressing down.

Can rap find a place in music games?

Nov 28th 2007 11:02AM (Joystiq)
As one commentator said above...ROCK Band. Since when has Rap been Rock? Oh wait...Nu Metal *shudder*...maybe if you like Fred Durst or Biohazard or old school Throwdown (rapcore).

If Harmonix wants to get in on the huge rap market (and it IS huge, people) they need to make Rap Hero/Band or something similar and use the same mic mechanics as they did in Rock Band. Including Hip Hop in Rock Band is like putting soy sauce in apple cobbler. It just doesn't work.

Or, for poots and snoots...

Step 3b: Change date to December 31st, 2410

Step 8: Gaze upon the barren wasteland that was your town.
Step 9: Start to rebuild, join the Brotherhood of Steel, go on adventures, kill some Radscorpions, defeat an evil computer hell bent on destroying what's left.

PS3 version of Orange Box might be 'downright unplayable'

Nov 25th 2007 3:25PM (Joystiq)
Gabe Newell is at the heart of the issue here, not any particular console's ease of portability/programmability. Gabe has taken a stance against the PS3 since the beginning of this generation. He is slanted against the PS3 and it is therefore not surprising that Valve (as brilliant and talented as they are) pushed this off on a company best known for annual sports games.

What Valve did saved them money, time, and effort. That's very good for their bottom line. That's very bad for John Q Gamer. Valve should keep their wares in the PC/360 realm, sticking with where there strengths lie. Yes, the poor port of Orange Box for PS3 will divert the negative attention to Sony/EA. No, this won't fool me or any other observant individual. It all comes back to Gabe. What Gabe likes and doesn't like reflects in his company's practices. He, at times, acts like a spoiled geek who whines and moans when things aren't the exact way he likes them. And whenever that happens, something like this OB PS3 issue occurs.

I want Orange Box axed for the PS3. There's just no sense in even trying to bring it to the PS3. Gabe doesn't want it there, EA won't do a good port, and HL2/TF2/Portal are very playable on older computers. If you really want to play Orange Box, buy it for PC or get a 360. There's no reason in sticking with just one console this generation. There is gaming heaven to be had on all three. Let the consoles have their strengths and weaknesses and leave the ports to a minimum.

My PS3 has never been "crippled." It receives just as much play time as my 360 and Wii.

Valve's Gabe Newell comes down hard on PS3

Oct 11th 2007 10:59AM (Joystiq)
Frankly I couldn't give a flying happy flip about what Gabe Newell, a PC developer, says about a console. It'd be like taking an English professor's advice on a math problem. Sure, the English professor knows a little Math since he's been through the education system, but his expertise is English, not Math, so his opinion will not be as informed as you would need it to be.

If you want to take someone's advice on the PS3, ask someone who's been developing for it for a good long while. Gabe has probably personally dabbled in the system's SDK but I've yet to really see Valve do anything significant for the PS3 that doesn't involve porting. Yes, the PS3 version of The Orange Box should be out sometime in the next couple of months, but as we've seen with other games, that port may just fade away into nothingness. Ports and the PS3 just aren't getting along.

Perhaps the PS3 is just too damn complex to just port something over to. Maybe developers are just lazy and/or lack the resources (read: money) to spend the man hours getting a PS3 version of their product running smoothly.

Time will ultimately tell the fate of the PS3, not Gabe Newell, who has obviously been biased against the PS3 since it was announced. I enjoy his company's games, I honestly do, but I can't take his comments seriously about this subject.

If this were say a SquareEnix, Konami, Insomniac, etc developer, who has major PS3 games in development that are designed ground up, not just ported over, discussing the worthlessnes of Sony's architecture, then I'd give it more clout. But all I see here is an English professor discussing a Math problem.
