Breaking: PS3 firmware 3.56 released
Jan 27th 2011 1:23AM (Joystiq)The loss of USB updates is a disappointment (assuming you mean the firmware updates from a USB storage device). The last time I did a firmware update via a download from PSN, it took almost an hour, and that was probably 2-3 weeks after the update was released. Ever since then, I download via PC and update manually.
I understand how it's used for the hacked stuff to load custom firmwares, but seriously, that's a pretty lame move by Sony, even though I see why they probably felt they had no choice. Still, those of us using it fairly get screwed.

Sep 27th 2010 1:43PM (Joystiq)Totally agree. It might be boring, but for the sake of your existing, loyal customers, it's a lot better to just say "Listen, we have some cool new stuff we want to introduce but we have to take the site down for 2-3 days. Sorry for the downtime, but it won't have to happen again so please bear with us."
Instead, you get some jackass in marketing who pops up with "Hey guys, wouldn't it be funny if we messed with everyone and told them we were just shutting down? We'll totally fool them and then launch the new site! And we can make a HILARIOUS video to go along with it!"
End result is you get customers unlikely to continue their existing relationship with the company and potential new customers now unlikely to trust them, even if it's clear it was a stunt.
