Resident Evil 4 vs. Resident Evil 5

I completely agree. The Wii controls for RE4 were unquestionably the best on any platform; it would be stupid not to follow-up.

Pachter: Nintendo hasn't abandoned core gamers

The whole hardcore vs. casual player debate is laughable; I can't stand talk about hardcore players being these enlightened entities, shaking their fists at minigames collections in a rousing "We shall not stand for this!" And branding casual players as quality-hating minigame-loving morons is just as ridiculous.

The point is the following: video game developers have to stop thinking in market terms and make compelling games. If you have a compelling game it will please people across the board. Just like a movie. Hardcore movie lovers and casual movie lovers all loved The Godfather. And Juno. Stop driving spikes and just make great games. And we, as video game lovers, have to stop this branding and move on. It does none of us, or the industry, any justice.

I'm of the theory that they went a little on the softer side so that we could get excited about 3rd party games (which we currently are... DING!), responding to the concerns that 3rd party support is always hard to generate, because Nintendo's first party games always hog up all the attention.

Some people are never happy.

Hot diggity we'd better get localisation on this.

The pathetic thing about watching the Japanese dude get scared is that I looked pretty much like that playing Resident Evil 4.

Indeed. It's always a re-telling. Hence the "Legend" element in the title.
