'Caprica' Gets Too Religious on Us

Oct 12th 2010 4:26PM (AOL TV)
What do you expect? This is the same bait-and-switch that Moore pulled with BSG and to a lesser extent DS9, which ultimately ruined the shows for many people. Instead of exploring truly interesting and controversial ideas, which is more difficult from a writing perspective, he prefers to take the easy way out with the Goddidit(tm) writing method.

GDC: EA DICE on building a bite-sized Battlefield

Mar 13th 2010 8:14PM (Joystiq)
I really don't understand why DICE/EA haven't yet come out with any additional content or map packs for Battlefield 1943. It makes no sense to me at all considering the popularity of the game.

If they would only release additional maps for Battlefield 1943, they would make an additional fortune, and it would only cost them a tiny fraction of what it costs to develop a full game. I would gladly fork over $2, $5, $10, or whatever for an additional map pack. Say El Alamein, Berlin, Stalingrad, Bocage, etc. Heck, I might even consider paying on a per-map basis. They could even tack on additional game modes like CTF and charge for that.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would do this. Come on EA! We want to give you our money. Give us what we want!

PSN inaccessible, Trophy-supporting games unplayable on non-Slim PS3s [update 4]

Feb 28th 2010 8:09PM (Joystiq)
The problem seems to only be affecting people with the older 'fat" PS3s like the 60GB or the 80gb models. An important point that Joystiq neglected to include in their article.

PSN inaccessible, Trophy-supporting games unplayable on non-Slim PS3s [update 4]

Feb 28th 2010 7:59PM (Joystiq)
The issue appears to only be affecting people with the older fat PS3 models (like the 60GB or the 80GB). The new 120GB "slim" models are unaffected. I have both of them and I can connect and play fine on my PS3 slim, but not on my older 60GB. On the 60GB, my date has been reset to Dec 31, 1999.

I hope this is just a server error and not some kind of date bug in the firmware which would require Sony to push out a firmware update.

Reuters: Video games are for adults, too

Jan 23rd 2010 9:21PM (Joystiq)
No bigs. In another few decades, the people who are now in their 20s and 30s who have been playing video games since they could walk will be running the country, and the people who write these sorts of idiotic stories will be in the old folks' home or dead.

EA Euro boss: Bad Company 2 is 'first strong attack' on Call of Duty

Jan 8th 2010 11:24AM (Joystiq)
I agree. The entire Battlefield franchise, including Battlefield: Bad Company, has always been a different type of gameplay experience than Call of Duty. And we like it that way! Battlefield has always been more vehicle/team/objective-based, while CoD has always been more of a traditional twitch/run-around/shoot-em-up game (much like CounterStrike). They are really two totally different types of games, and that's fine.

I don't see any reason why Battlefield needs to become more like CoD, and I am concerned by some of the statements DICE and EA have made in regard to them wanting to make it more like CoD. Leave Battlefield alone and let it be what it is! People who like Battlefield like it *because* it isn't just like every other military shooter on the market!

Motorola Droid camera autofocus fixed in secrecy? (Update: it's a date-related self-correction)

Nov 17th 2009 10:14AM (Engadget)
Holy crap, when did this happen? I was using my camera yesterday evening and was still having auto focus problems. Now I find this morning that it suddenly works better than my old standalone digital camera. Awesome! Thanks Motorola/Google/Whoever!

OnLive demonstrates iPhone app, set to redefine mobile gaming?

Nov 16th 2009 9:17AM (Engadget)
I don't see how playing a game designed for a PC on an iPhone/Droid would be much different than playing a game designed for a PC on a console. Sure, the controls would need to be simplified, but that's what is done for console games every day. In fact, it would be closer to a PC experience on a Droid since the Droid has a hardware keyboard and a D-pad. Granted you'd be playing on a much smaller screen. But I can definitely see this working for RTS, RPS/RPG, and casual games very well. FPS games might be a little sketchy since the reaction times are more important in those games, but it's nothing that couldn't be worked out. I think I'll reserve judgment until the thing actually exists and is being used by people in the real world.
