DS Daily: Regrettable

Dec 3rd 2007 3:41PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I have to agree wholeheartedly with the Pokemon Pearl/Diamond detractors. We all thought wifi would make the endlessly recycled formula somehow worthwhile. We were wrong. Wifi does not an innovation make. If it had been my first Pokemon game then I would have loved it, but it was my second (not to mention last), so I didn't.

Played Izuna for a week, got bored, haven't touched it since release. Played Advance Wars Dual Strike for a week, felt annoyed that they just recycled the GBA engine, stopped playing. Wish I hadn't paid full price for Orcs & Elves; might have felt differently if the wand stylus came in every box, but by itself the game is too shallow and short for full price.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, DSFanboy. I feel better now.

It's a Mario Party on a tree

I'm going to hang these on my Festivus pole.

DS Daily: Bring out your dead

Nov 30th 2007 7:48AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
For King's Quest to be worth money on the DS, the developers would have to make it a compilation, definitely. Just stuff it with as many of the games as the cart can hold. I wonder how many that would be? King's Quest I thru... V? VII? I'd buy that at any price.

Never played any of the other games being mentioned (Fallout, Space Quest), but I support my DSfanboy brothers in their cause and trust their judgement.

I can't understand why people are asking for Golden Sun remakes. Do these people not realize that Golden Sun is a GBA game, and that the DS has a GBA game slot? If they want a sequel, that's a different story, but I thought we were talking about remakes/ports?

Greenpeace: Nintendo bad for the environment

Nov 27th 2007 5:07PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
So Nintendo gets NO points for purposely designing their new home console to save power? Whereas Microsoft and Sony make power-hungry machines with only token (if any) consideration towards power consumption?

Nintendo could and should create a component recycling program (if they have one, it's not advertised as far as I've seen), and they may deserve to be in last place, but they certainly don't deserve zero points. What an arbitrary study.

DS Daily: Gift list nightmares

I predict a marked increase in domestic, stylus-based facial stabbings this holiday season!

DS Daily: Coaching

Nov 21st 2007 10:00AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Thanks to the efforts of Alisha, I have every intention of buying this... if I can find it. I live in Quebec and haven't seen it anywhere. Amazon.ca says it will be released on November 29th. That's odd. I wonder why it wasn't released across North America simultaneously as is the norm.

I've strictly avoided learning Quebec's dialectal French for years, so this Coach will go a long way towards helping me learn the language properly.

By the way, if Ubisoft and/or Nintendo is listening, my mom says she'll buy a DS if you develop My German Coach.

Exit from traditional control schemes, if you'd like

Nov 21st 2007 1:12AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I admit, when this came out on PSP I felt a bit jealous. It looks really interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye out for its release.

When I filled in Nintendo's Zelda survey (my feather stylus will be here in 6 to 10 weeks), for the question "What do you like least about Phantom Hourglass?" I answered, "No option to use D-pad controls." The stylus controls are well-done but I still would have preferred the choice.

So good on Taito for their decision to offer both.

id confirms Quake Arena DS

Nov 21st 2007 1:04AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm on board with the Quake Arena idea. Not so much with Wolfenstein. 1st person shooters have come so far since then, it would be too large a step backward.

I'm playing Orcs & Elves now. It's okay. It certainly FEELS like a cell phone game, but it's holding my interest.

Star Tribune: DS is easy to pick over the PSP

Nov 21st 2007 1:00AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
What makes me curious is that "Pajama Party!" is getting all wound up about this topic and is ranting about ignorance and flamewars, but he's the only one doing so. I'm seeing a lot of people put forth their reasons without expletives, without name-calling, without impassioned ignorance.

Pajama Party!, has it ever occured to you that these problems are actually being caused by YOU? Consider it. From my point of view, it honestly looks like YOU are the one trying to start a flamewar. Calm down.

As to the question at hand, I've never played a PSP but I do like the idea of a gaming system focused on gaming, rather than an all-in-one media solution. And I would get annoyed with long load times. And I have brand loyalty with Nintendo dating back to the NES days. (I still haven't forgiven Sony for their hand in Sega's demise, even though I know Sega mostly brought it on themselves. Rest in peace, Segata Sanshiro; your sacrifice is not forgotten.)

And I like that Nintendo's DS advertising stresses inclusivity. The new Mario Party DS ads always show two or more people playing together. The commercials for PSP ("Dude, get your own!") strike me as antisocial and mean-spirited.

Une semaine avec My French Coach: Day Seven

Nov 19th 2007 5:03AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Yeah, people were obsessed with apples back in the day. The original name for tomatoes, too, was "pomme d'amour," or "love apple." Still tastes better than "pommes de rue," though.

A darn fine job you did, Alisha. I'm very interested in this title now and intend to pick it up if I see it on the shelf, and it's all because of you. I hope Ubisoft sends you something nice, like--what else?--a crate of apples.
