The reason for using Batman in lego form is pretty simple: Lego already has a license with DC for Batman legos.

while LSW was a blast (and LSW2 looks equally fun), further installments will certainly only be made from licenses that Lego has acquired and can extend to games.
Spider-Man is another one of their licenses, as is Harry Potter.
