Splash Damage's Brink wants to change your mind on multiplayer

Nov 28th 2009 3:10PM (Joystiq)
I think they point they are making it that there is a large segment of the game buying public who do not explore the multiplayer part of a game. Whether that is due to ignorance, fear or some other factor I don't think it's stupid for a developer to look at ways to encourage people to give it a try.

As for whether this game is goign to be like UT or Quake. Come on, it's by the same team who did W:ET and ETQW, PLUS they have a ton of new talent from the console development community. The developer has the balls to make Brink the game they want, not just a generic clone of past FPS games with different graphics.

Alan Wake may scare up 360 first, PC later

Jul 8th 2009 12:30AM (Joystiq)
Anyone who pirates on the PC bought a $200 X360 a LOOONGGGG time ago and has been happily downloading and playing games without the PC DRM bullshit we've been suffering for years.

If piracy is destroying the PC gaming market it's also been firmly rooted in the X360 market for years and doesn't even seem to be an issue. Weird stuff.

Valve: Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer demo on its way, pre-order customers get 'advanced access'

Jul 5th 2009 12:29AM (Joystiq)
I suppose it's a nice pre-order bonus, prefer this to giving some exclusive in game content that penalizes people who chose to buy the game later. Would be nice if they didn't call it a demo though, how about "pre-order preview".

For those who want to try before you buy, well at least you know there will be the usual free weekends when you can play the whole game.

You're spot on, not sure why you got voted down. Doesn't mean the 360 game is not enjoyable or worth a purchase but when L4D2 comes around it'll be on my PC way before my 360.

Console only gamers really need to get over themselves and stop being so defensive about the obvious deficiencies of their platform of choice. There are HUGE benefits to gaming on consoles but please ease off the kool-aid and acting like your shit don't stink.

@Geist

Source engine is updated for every game Valve produces (and in many cases is backwardly compatible with older games). Your statement is equal to saying the Call of Duty is on a date Quake 3 engine. Valve just doesn't seem to want to iterate it's engine modifications like id or Epic do.

Regarding graphics in L4D2 I prefer they use more resources to apply variety in the infected and keep a lot going on with a solid frame rate. If you're studying wall textures you deserve to get your arse eaten!

Atari responds to missing multiplayer in Ghostbusters PC

Jun 17th 2009 7:25PM (Joystiq)
No you include a dedicated server file and people can run their own servers. More realistic is the cost of developing a game browser along with tweaking gameplay for the PC was probably too high.

I wonder how long until we have a PC FPS that is controller only.

Bethesda talks Splash Damage game, confirms E3 reveal

SD have said this is an original IP and something Locki has wanted to do for many years. It's not impossible that has changed but I feel SD want to build their portfolio not continue to work of someone else's IP.

Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

Nov 11th 2008 12:03AM (Joystiq)
EVERYONE did bad shit during the war. The losers just forfeit their right to justify or alter it in the history books.

Any game played for fun about a real war is arguably in bad taste. Nazi soldiers were human beings, not aliens, not evil(majority), just men fighting for their country. The sad fact that we feel justified "Killing Nazis" is a pretty poor reflection on our understanding of the war. Unless of course you consider those Nazis as being what they are, computer generated enemies.

So likewise, we can't really take the Japanese in CoD 5 as being anything more than that. To humanise them into actual representations of real Japanese servicemen is to expect many other factors that a game isn't meant to explore.
