Your pal Bobby earns $20 million in stock sale

Nov 13th 2009 1:47PM (Joystiq)
I have to agree that everything looks on the up-and-up on this one. Company officers have to do special filings to make trades and Mr. Kotick did so properly. He also held over 3 million shares before the need to excercise his options and is still the largest non-instutional shareholder of Activision stock. I doubt he was even forced to sell shares like the update says, I think he merely didn't want to have such a large investment all in one company so he exercised his options as cashless trade and took the profits. This is an everyday occurence for just about anyone who receives stock options from the company they work for.

Miyamoto says Nintendo not targeting core with E3

Jul 19th 2008 5:51AM (Joystiq)
I simply have to ask the question, "why do so many of you care so much about E3?" And this question is relevant to both the old and new format, at least for those of you who DON'T work in the industry. I've just never really gotten it.

I mean, what are you *personally* gaining by hearing an announcement at a game trade show as opposed to hearing about it a month before or a month after? Maybe I'm just older and don't need to get my thrills all in one setting, but I just don't get it. The reality is most of us gamers keep track of every game and every announcement all year round. The days of E3 seem to be just like any other day for me. If I get some news about some awesome upcoming titles...great, it's nice to know that I have something to look forward to...but if I don't I know that I will hear about them well before they're released with screen shots, gameplay footage and occassionally a great demo. I don't need an E3 or TGS to feed me that information, that's why I check Joystiq and similar sites or magazines regularly.

Am I just completely missing something here?

Rumor: Kid Icarus making a comeback

Mar 21st 2008 4:49AM (Joystiq)
Actually, that was my first thought when I heard Reggie make the anouncement. It certainly makes me wax nostalgic being part of the "NES" generation.

I really wonder if they'll make it 3-D though. Although I'm used to Kid Icarus being a 2-D platformer, his bow makes me think they'll try something revolutionary and do a Metroid Prime on us. Considering how much I love the Prime series, I can't say that's a bad thing...as long as they do it right.

Massively Week in Review: Feb 5 - 11, 2008

I know that place. It's Hollywood Blvd., right next to the Chinese theater. I live there and probably pass by the area at least once a week.

Nintendo shares hit 7-month low on recession fears

Don't let itouchmyself tell you that's not a good starting point. Anything is a good starting point, Fernando. However with about 1k it will be hard for you to follow a very important rule: diversify. It basically means to not put all your eggs in one basket. I would recommend you start looking at mutual funds as a way to get started with that kind of capital.

Rather than give you specific advice (and try not to listen to anyone in particular), I would recommend checking out the Wall St. Journal's Guide to Money and Investing. It's a very easy read (about 30-60 minutes) and will help you learn some of the basic concepts of this market. You want to be an INFORMED investor and understand some of the basic concepts before jumping in with both feet.

Are you a mid-core gamer?

Sorry for the double-post. I swear I only hit the button once.

Are you a mid-core gamer?

No more telling us how old you are. You are making me feel really old.

Oh, and I'm definitey mid-core here, but with work and home life, I'd say I'm more casual than hard core now.

Nintendo hopeful third-party Wii games will sell

Jan 29th 2008 1:23PM (Joystiq)
I see it as two things. The first is Nintendo themselves as a developer and publisher. If they were to get out of the hardware race tomorrow they'd still be considered an absolute powerhouse in the gaming community. Very few companies can sell software based on name recognition alone, Square and Bioware come to mind, but the reality is Nintendo has the kind of rabid fan base that sells games and they are well known for putting quality into their first and second party offerings. While there are some great 3rd party games for the Wii...and GC for that matter...if a company's measure of success is based on Nintendo's success they will most likely fail.

As others have pointed out, the other is marketing and building the right game. I could write a book on this. For the most part, I don't see advertisements for new games. However I also think they need to make the game for the target demographic. The Wii is in an unusual position in attracting new gamers. Rather than 3rd parties trying to play both sides of the fence, I'd rather they either make the most awesome casual, party game like Wii Sports, or a great hardcore experience like Prime or Resident Evil 4. Don't try and blend the two together.

Finally, a game about the Library of Congress classification system [Updated]

Jan 18th 2008 2:33PM (Joystiq)
Some of you seem to be taking this WAY too seriously. While Justin may have made a mistake and tried to bring a little sarcasm into his article, there's no need to deride the man. You're on a freakin' GAMING WEB SITE! Lighten up a little bit, we don't read Joystiq for intellectual pursuits other than a good debate every now and then.
