Report: Capcom sees 'no distinction' between on-disc and off-disc DLC

Apr 3rd 2012 10:41AM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified)

They are hardly both cash grabs as you put it. Yes, some DLC is obviously an attempt at nickel and diming. But you can't look at all DLC is equal. I imagine most people who play DLC for Bethesda games would agree. If you think the first piece of DLC for Skyrim will be just a quick cash grab, I believe most would disagree with you.

But DLC that is already present on the disc from day one? That's obviously bad business, and not a way to treat your customers.

Assassin's Creed 3 headed to Wii U, first trailer released

@jph89

Yeah, unless you listen to the creators of the Unreal engine. A few reports here or there saying the next Xbox/Playstation console aren't going to be much stronger than the Wii U doesn't mean as much as the creators of the most used game engine in the world saying they'll be much stronger, in my opinion.

I actually have more friends that are fans of both than fanboys. They play incredibly differently and quite often after a marathon of one, a lot of us will switch to the other, just a different feel overall.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on PC replaced by Ghost Recon Online

@nerdydesi1 no no, and I agree. But a digital download is not a disc-based game, so the argument is mostly invalid. Look at other download services like GoG.com, you can install that on more than one computer on your own household and play together. Now, I'm not for or against that, I understand completely why that isn't fair, I didn't buy two copies of the game, etc. etc. But when my wife wants to play a pc game, something that doesn't happen near often enough, is it worth buying another copy of civ IV? When I know we'll only play once. /shrug.

@mietha I agree 100% about Ubisoft, they seem to have taken the idea of DRM, and run with it, and when people got upset that their DRM was the worst thing to happen to PC gaming in a long time, they got personally offended by it. In the last week they have made multiple comments about PC gamers in general that are quite petty and childish.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on PC replaced by Ghost Recon Online

@Esposch Look, I love Valve just as much as the next guy, in fact I adore them. I have almost 100 games on my steam account. But steam IS DRM. The entire service is a form of DRM. Ever try to play a game you downloaded on steam on two different computers at once? Like, say playing a multiplayer game of Civilization IV with your wife/girlfriend whom you live with? It takes such a ridiculous amount of work around because Steam doesn't allow you to run multiple versions of the game at the same time. Which I understand completely, but that is the definition of DRM.
