Blizzard exec hints at Starcraft 2, world reels

Jan 16th 2007 5:45PM (Joystiq)
There is no way Starcraft2 will be on time for next year (2008). It would have at least been announced, even considering how secretive is blizzard; the game should already be running pretty much as starcraft:ghost did, crucial decisions should have been made, as the graphics stile*, and so on.

Alpha testing should start in no time, I mean, how long has the alpha testing for WoW and its expansion been? For a RTS that isn't MMO it would be shorter, but considering how successful starcraft was, the expectations on it, and the importance of multiplayer in SC and probably SC2 the alpha testing should be rather long too.

My bet is that he is speaking about Starcraft:Ghost, it was announced for last gen consoles, rumours about next (it was next then) consoles appeared and later it was suspended, maybe not to say that it is in fact being developed for "next" gen consoles, or that they are considering that option.

Time, effort and money has been invested in SC:G, it is probably near completion, blizzard may have continued in some way it, and with all 3 "next" gen consoles now available and with growing user bases it can be released for them all getting a lot of potential buyers. It is logical to release a game for consoles now that so many people are playing WoW in PCs, I don't think blizzard wants PC gamers to stop playing WoW to start playing SC2.

* I think 3D is a no brainer, but considering the power that actual computers have it may be wise to wait a little to release a 3D RTS with good graphics and with low requirements, as blizzard games use to do.

Smaller processors on Xbox 360 delayed

Dec 26th 2006 1:54PM (Joystiq)
A cooler, quieter, cheaper XBox360 would be so sweet that I would buy one, even despite of that I haven't time to play the games. The fan noise can spoil the inmersive feeling when playing almost any game that isn't noisy enough.

I would like the power brick to be smaller or to be inside the console, as it is in the PS3, too.

All-in-one gadgets: Let the dream die

Dec 12th 2006 9:18PM (Joystiq)
@#1 PCs and laptops are good all-in-ones, but they aren't as portable as a PSP, or... a PDA.

PDAs could easily be the all-in-one gadget if manufacturers gave more freedom to customers, the problem is that actually looks like they are really expensive.

I mean, put a touch screen in a PSP, reduce the screen size and you have a PDA with the only difference of the software, and linux (as the linux in the PS3) is free, so how much does a touch screen cost? $100? then how is nintendo earning money with DSs? PDAs with wifi could cost much less than $300 (~€300, unfortunately for europeans) but it is really hard to see any.

PDAs are actually a rip-off IMHO, making the all in one gadget is as easy as making a cheap PDA that gives the users freedom.

PS: the same could be said about GP2X and other handhelds, all they need is a touchscreen, or a small querty keyboard and give the users (or the community) the freedom to use the hardware in every possible (and legal) way.

While you have the option of not to pay for it and it doesn't affect the multiplayer it is fine for me.

EB-Gamestop wants your Halo 3 money -- now!

This is way excessive in time, but it would have been really hilarious with Starcraft: Ghost.

What about Duke Nukem Forever? Are they accepting preorders too? Because eventually it will be available, if there are some developers still working on it looks like they'll never quit (nor finish).

Those who are in a dark room are there for a good reason!, they aren't using the tilt sensors, they are using the sensors array that needs IR. just joking.

The new economics of Counter-Strike

Oct 12th 2006 4:37PM (Joystiq)
I think that's a great idea, weapons/price will not only be balanced, they will be autobalanced!!

I hope other companies will find similar algorithms for other games and genres, as RTSs. Although prices shouldn't change too often or players will feel like noobs needing to check all the prices everyday.
