If Square-Enix needs to learn a lesson, they should play Skyrim.
Ever since FFXII, I've been waiting for a FF for my PS3. So far I've seen none. Too many years I've waited to play a huge RPG, but they keep releasing half job games with FF in its name.
Then came Skyrim. Being short on change, and because I've waited so many years for a perfect RPG with TOWNS, LEVEL-UP, FREEDOM, Skyrim took priority over Uncharted 3.
Thanks Bethesda. Though theres no JRPG feel, I've got my gameplay back...with...so....much....more.
Please Square-Enix, please learn from what Bethesda did with Skyrim. Learn that towns are possible! Learn that freedom and exploration is demanded by all fans! Learn that additions/refining not removals to gameplay is what true improvement to a franchise is! Learn that people want to have control over the development of their characters, inclusive of full control over battle commands for each member of the party!
I'm now reached holding onto Square-Enix by a thread that is being weighed down by the heavy dollar-signs they've equipped to their eyes.
And lastly, probably not 'leastly', LEARN A LESSON FROM TETSUYA NOMURA!
(possible spoiler) It would make sense to remove the 3D effect (somehow disable it) when in iron-sights after Jack loses his eye. But then, people might get disappointed. I think it is something Kojima would do. So....would he do it???
I'm pretty sure I saw KZ3 guns, Kratos, LBP's bubble, photo of PaRapper the Rapper, Resistance costumes?, spooky eyes in the forest (don't know what that means), TM's Sweet Tooth, MGS4's Mk. II...there may be other secret stuff like possibly a picture from Drake's Deception.
Could be for PSHome...or hopefully something like Super Smash Bros.
@gatotsu911 Yep, that's the style I liked. Up is forward, left is turn left. The camera angles were beautiful like ResEvilDC, DinoCrisis. Combat was way better than what SH is now. And forgive me for complaining on the wrong people. Stupid british messed up SH.
If you liked those games, no problem there....they just shouldn't title it Silent Hill or Final Fantasy XIII as they don't represent what early those games offer. I don't mind playing and enjoying Shattered Memories (dynamic system was good) or even Downpour. Just don't title it Silent Hill when you've remove stuff from it instead of building on what mades those early SH games what they are. I would buy a SH game because expect that it would play like or improve upon previous SH. But that's not what they're doing.
I assumed people like you have never played and understood and even deeply loved SH1-3. What they're making these days are spin-offs of the SH franchise. SH1-3 followed and kept a certain pattern with their deep meanings, love, psychological design, controls, gameplay. Maybe SH4 to some degree as well. But what they're making now are totally different games that share the same visual atmosphere. They are not Silent Hill...which is the type of game I want to buy. But I don't mind playing over those older games, they always entertain. no problem for me. I love water/rain and I heard about Downpour going back to its roots and that was something big for me. Maybe I might look at Downpour closer and maybe even ignore the intro (if it is horrible as I don't know anything about Korn) and the f-words in the game (yeah I'm a baby) and see what it has to offer.
But mark my words...when Team Silent left, the series was dead.
I was really looking forward to Downpour as I thought it would be more like SH1-3. Apparently it's more like a blend of those three games and Shattered Memories. Another game to pass up on. I'll just go back and play the only real Silent Hill games available; 1, 2 and 3. I still have other endings to see. SH4 was not a Silent Hill. SH5 just totally ignored what the SH series are and opted to attract fans of the movies. Shattered Memories was pure shit, especially the gameplay. Downpour looks like it was going back to the original look and gameplay of the first three games, but then dropping the f-bomb and including that nonsense Shattered Memories 'throw down closet' sections in the demo means that dumb Americans are involved in the development. Goodbye Mr. Yamaoka. Goodbye Ms. McGlynn. Goodbye Team Silent. Goodbye SiLeNT HiLL...
