Might it not have been informative and relevant to perhaps do a few moments' worth of research on what other consoles cost in Brazil, to provide some kind of context?
You don't need to have shipped a game for a particular system to have experience with that system. Developers have been working on Wii and PS3 games for over a year now. Obviously, a high-profile company like Blizzard is only going to be hiring people with experience (ie, people working at other game development firms) in the first place, so there's nothing odd or incorrect about that bullet point.
PC has a lot of casual gaming, such as web-based games, but "PC gaming" is for the most part more hardcore than console gaming. That's not a quality judgment, as I'm much more of a console gamer than a PC gamer these days, but it seems odd to say "Keep casual on the PC, consoles are for the hardcore." PCs are the home of genres like first person shooters (yes, there are plenty on consoles, and I love games like Halo, but no matter how you look at it they are compromised control-wise), realtime strategy, MMOs (most of which are not casual). In fact one of the things I LIKE about console gaming is that it's less hardcore, requires less effort and maintenance, and is simply easier.
baR_n1: Nintendo doesn't make Castlevania, Konami does. If Konami wants to use a certain art style, that's their call, not anyone else'.
I do think the art they've used for the past two games is craptacular and bland, though, it doesn't fit the series NEARLY as well as the previous style.
Personally, I thought the presentation was extremely disappointing. Young cited games like GTA, The Sims, and so on, but he doesn't understand that those games are the result of true creative innovation, not management overlords saying "We must meed a quota of 1-3 feature innovations per year." The corporate cynicism behind the concept of a quota on innovation is almost suffocating, and it's very indicative of today's modern commoditized game industry. I'm sure a couple cool features will result from this initiatve, but it's not going to result into any games that truly shape innovation; it'll just be features that overpromise "cinematic quality" or something and the people who for some reason keep buying each of the 356204 WWII games that come out every month will buy it and be amazed at the dude who got shot in the neck.
Honestly, I came in half expecting and hoping Young to announce that they had opened up or set aside a development studio for the express purpose of thinking of truly innovative or creative game ideas. But no, it's just more of the game industry assemblyline mentality, separated into quotas and bullet points.
THIS is newsworthy, Joystiq? A Nintendo fan writes something critical about Nintendo? It's worth reporting every time any fan of a company writes something negative about that company's upcoming games? The guy hasn't even PLAYED the game, and his opinions on how it PLAYS are newsworthy? I HAVE played the game, and the best thing about it is how it simultaneously blends old and new elements in a way that's constantly surprising.
It won't shake up the gaming world of 2006? Well that's a big surprise, considering there are two entire consoles coming out this year. New Super Mario Bros. isn't going to overshadow those two minor events? Consider me surprised--and informed! Perhaps, as a Nintendo fan, this guy is only so disillusioned because he actually DID expect this game to be "the game of 2006." If so, his starting assumptions are so incredibly ludicrous that I can't see why anybody would give his story more than a passing glance.
Tom B.: Final totally complete Revolution development hardware won't go out until June (coincidentally, the same month final PS3 dev hardware is going out). However, by this point, Ubisoft probably knows what to expect from the final hardware. Nintendo noted that, obviously, developers working on launch titles have first call on dev hardware.
