Warner Home Video moves 250k copies of 300 in first week

Aug 8th 2007 12:11AM (Engadget HD)
Whats the point of releasing hd-dvd/dvd combo discs if they're not discontinuing standard dvd releases? Combo discs are pointless if they're stored away in the hd-dvd section. People don't go to the hd-dvd section looking for dvds. Putting a combo disc in the hd section of the store is like preaching to the choir.

Universal releases over 100 HD DVDs to date

Aug 4th 2007 4:19AM (Engadget HD)
At the end of the day, what it really comes down to is that in North America, Blu-ray movies are outselling HD-DVD 2 to 1. You can talk about attach rates this and standalone boxes that, but for the studios all they care about is how many movies they can push. Unless HD-DVD pulls something off this holiday, Universal is going to realize that its losing money by staying in HD-DVD camp only. Theres really no other way of looking at this.

Engadget & Joystiq interview: Peter Moore, head of Xbox

Jul 13th 2007 5:48PM (Joystiq)
"So now here we are, a little over a year later obviously and your competition has launched, in your own press conference your materials show that the Wii is -- not by much -- outselling the 360"

Why does vgchartz list the Wii outselling the Xbox360 by 2 to 1? Who's using inaccurate numbers here?

Mad World: Gears ad propels song to #1 on iTunes

Nov 27th 2006 2:46PM (Joystiq)
I also went searching for the song after watching the trailer. I think Postal Service and Frou Frou got the same kind of boost from the Garden State soundtrack that this song is getting.

I think the song works well with the trailer. Its sets a somber mood amid all this insanity. I'm sure alot of kids think the music is stupid, but it speaks to a fighters desire for introspection amid chaos.

Engadget 2.0 bugs (and feedback)

Sep 20th 2006 2:22PM (Engadget)
Hi-rez images used in articles are uploaded at a width of 860 pixels, yet the script controlling the dynamic resizing caps them at 852 pixels wide causing image tearing at what should be full resolution. Images should either be uploaded at 852px wide or your script should be changed.

Wii not even remotely region-free

Given joystiq's muckery lately, I'm gonna take a wait-and-see approach to this entry.

Rational gamers choose subsidized hardware, all else equal [update 2]

Sep 14th 2006 8:09PM (Joystiq)
"The ultimate profitability of a game manufacturer is no concern of ours, as gamers."

Tell that to everyone who bought a dreamcast.

Rational gamers choose subsidized hardware, all else equal [update 2]

Sep 14th 2006 8:07PM (Joystiq)
"A larger, up-front investment indicates stronger confidence that a product will eventually be successful enough to pay for initial investment."

I see that as weaker confidence in the product though, since they have to drop the price to encourage more buyers. VW doesn't add a premium on their cars because they're not confident in their product.

This whole post is so confusing.

Wii hardware to be profitable at launch

Sep 14th 2006 7:26PM (Joystiq)
"I'm slightly annoyed that Nintendo is so uptight about taking losses when it is pretty much standard in the game industry."

MS and Sony are fighting for short term supremacy, Nintendos business model tells me they're in this industry for the long haul.

Critiquing Nintendo's Wii launch details

Sep 14th 2006 2:40PM (Joystiq)
The DVD playback thing kinda annoys me, but its not critical. Given what nvidia and Ati have been doing with their drivers lately, processing DVD's through the video card has been shown to produce images far superior to $500+ dvd players and I was really hoping to see one of the consoles exploit that.

The lack of bundling 2 controllers is a bit of a bummer too.
