Every NES title screen in 5 minutes

after watching 1/3 of that vid I nearly hurled all over the place.

The Wii makes its way to the Today Show

DVD upgrade coming next year

Nov 15th 2006 9:33PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
just because we love video games (and Wii) doesn't mean we all have enough DVD players for every room. Or that we should.

I only have one (not counting the drive in my PC which isn't connected to my tube). I was really hoping DVD playback would ship with Wii--then I could've moved my old DVD player to my bedroom.

And I don't care if I "could" buy a DVD player for 20 bucks. Ninty said it was gonna come with the Wii. Now it doesn't. That makes me mad. It's the principle of the thing that makes me angry, and, frankly, whether or not you "need" DVD playback on Wii, you were promised it, too.

Maybe it was Perrin Kaplan who originally said Wii was gonna have DVD playback. Then I would understand why it doesn't now.

Off the Grid: Digital killed the analog star

What's this generalization about us turning our backs on board games? What the hell? Try some Carcassone or Ticket to Ride. Board games can be awesome. I never turned my back on "analog." I'm sure many other gamers stay true to their "analog" roots as well.

Wii runs Linux? [update 1]

take this lame article down, it was a "joke" ... in other words a complete waste of our time. That sucks because I was all ready to start drooling.

Critiquing Nintendo's Wii launch details

@ 31

Those VC prices are scandalous. No, not because of the fact that we can all get the roms for free, but because most of us bought many of those games for NES, SNES, and N64 anyway. Now we have to pay up to $10 more to enjoy them again, after our old NES systems broke?

Nintendo is ramming us up the butt. I won't be buying ANY VC games unless my wife begs me to.

Critiquing Nintendo's Wii launch details

Sep 14th 2006 2:50PM (Joystiq)
I agree with every single one of Blake's comments. I also lament the fact that Wii releases in white only.

I bet most of the Nintendo execs wanted to release in October, but the game support just wasn't there. The extra month is just what lots of third party developers need to complete their games on time.

Nintendo is betting their big ones with this release date. They want everyone in the stores to see what fanboys witnessed at E3 '06... Nintendo stomped the competition. The fact that there will be approximately 4 Wiis for every 1 PS3 indicates that people just might jump on the Nintendo wagon.

Sheesh if the console price was only 20 bucks less... what a psychological impact that would've created.

Wii not supporting DVD playback

Sep 14th 2006 1:21PM (Joystiq)
I gotta say that I'm dissapointed, too. Yes, I understand they saved a few bucks, yes, I understand that most people have DVD players. but consider this:

This morning the Nintendo execs advertised using Nintendo's Opera browser to look up movie star names while you're watching the movie on TV (on commercial break or something). Well, it would be SO much cooler if my Wii played DVDs... pause the movie, press home button, go to imdb.com, find info, press home button, go to dvd channel, and bam resume movie.

Plus, I was hoping to move my current dvd player to my bedroom. Can't do that now. Is the Wii supposed to be the center of entertainment in my living room or what???

USA Today confirms U.S. Wii price, date

Sep 14th 2006 9:50AM (Joystiq)
to American fanboys, November 19 hurts. Not only is it after the PS3 release (meaning we'll have to climb over the Sony fanboys to get our hands on a Wii), it's a Sunday! WAAAaT?

I have to admit I'm also dissapointed with the high price (for the Americas AND Europe). Add in the cost of 1 or 2 games, an extra wiimote and nunchuck, and we're talking $400 USD. Ouch.

Oh, and several months ago, Perrin Kaplan told us to "look to past Nintendo console releases for a hint at the price." That's why most fanboys are upset.

OK, I am pleasantly surprised about the photo channel and the Mii channel.
