Pokemon Video Game Championships return this spring
Feb 11th 2010 12:11AM (Joystiq)Actually getting the EVs on the level 1 is pretty easy too (although not cheap). All it takes is 55 vitamins (9 of 5 of the types, 10 of anything but carbos), equipping it with a Power Lens (+4 gain to speed EVs) and killing a level 2 Starly (you have to make sure you split up the XP gain so you don't level) and you'll be sitting at 255 EVs on a level 1. Now you just have to put it in a box or evolve it for the stat changes to take effect.
If you don't believe that this works, try it out and then talk to the dude that gives out effort ribbons, and he'll give your level 1 the ribbon.
Pokemon Video Game Championships return this spring
Feb 10th 2010 6:50PM (Joystiq)In previous years of the tournament the max level cap was 50. The only difference this year is that Pokémon over this level will be downgraded to 50, allowing Pokémon like Tyranitar (who evolves at level 55) to be used, as well as allowing Pokémon to learn a move that they otherwise wouldn't be able to learn until after level 50.
A Pokémon can be maxxed on EVs at level 1. Effort Values are a hidden stat within the game that is gained when you kill a monster or use a stat up item like carbos or protein. EVs increase your stats. A Pokémon cannot have more than 510 EVs and cannot have more than 255 in any one stat.
@Broken Triforce
The competition will almost definitely be limited to 250 participants per age group again. It's very difficult to accommodate more than that for a tournament with no entry fee (it would require renting out more space, more staffing, equipment etc..) They may increase the number, but it seems pretty unlikely to me that they would invest in all the new equipment it would require.
I know that number sucks. I worked the Philly event last year as auxiliary staff, and it was pretty depressing watching some of the younger kids work so hard on making their teams only to be turned away because their number wasn't drawn.
My advice is don't go way out of your way to attend one of these things (we had people drive 10 hours to Philly who didn't get in), and don't get your heart set on playing until your number is drawn.
Also, how hard was it to pull up the tournament info from 2009 to find out that this wasn't the first year that the level cap was level 50? I'm fine with you writing an article and not knowing the first thing about EVs, but don't pretend to know what you're talking about if don't (or doing it through the guise of a "confirmed Pokémaniac").

Apr 5th 2008 6:51PM (WoW)Although your attacks can't be parried from behind, they certainly can still be dodged though. The damage increase from experise is very good and should not be overlooked.
As a sidenote, it's also a really good trinket for a tank to have. It's a drastic increase in threat as well as a very good "avoidance" stat because it prevents the tank from getting parry ganked.

" GG all... this thread provided much needed forum entertainment. Endall and I are the best of in-game friends and decided to bring the fun back to the forums "oldschool, 2005/2006 style" before all the "new blood" joined DB. It was fun for both of us and looked as though it was fun for alot of you as well.
It was funny to see just how many forum trolls there really are out there. PLAY THE GAME! I'll take out a grubby, no-good troll any day of the week... with my "SUPER COMPUTER!" LOL - keep it real!"
All that said, it was still at least a moderately interesting read.
