Over the past five years I've played FFXI and reading countless interviews, I've learned that SE will never give a straight answer unless it benefits them in one way or another. SE saying "We have no idea" is much like their Global Online Producer's, Sage Sundi, legendary quote "I don't know" when asked about game mechanics.
