IMO if FFXIII wasn't a FF game, it would have received a lot more mediocre reviews. Compared to some of the past FF games it's very shallow wrt story telling and character development. It's not necessarily a bad game, It's just nothing special.

To prevent my little bro from updating the Wii I restricted the main disk channel to only loading games rated 'Universal' (he doesn't have any of those!). Know he's forced to load all games through the Homebrew channel (Gecko OS) . lol
