Surprising.

DICE's future plans go beyond the Battlefield franchise

@Lerkero

No, you were in "shooter mode". If you didn't play it like an FPS and instead played it like a first-person platformery-esque thing, trying to make your movement 'flowy', rather than trudging from one side of the map to the other, it controlled like an utter dream. Until those snipers came at you on the last level.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure that the reason this game copped so much shit is because people tried to play it like an FPS. It isn't one!

Yep, Gabe Newell is a billionaire

He deserves every cent for what he's done for PC gaming. I never want to go back to the dark ages of fragmented platforms, lost discs, and having to go through bullshit (patches, installs etc.) when you want to play the game.

New iPad announced, features 2048 x 1566 resolution [update: pricing and availability]

Mar 7th 2012 5:31PM (Joystiq)
@Vidaluko

They probably did it for backwards compatibility reasons. The new model with 4x the power takes 4x the resources to render things, making iPad 2 compatibility a breeze.

I mean, if it wasn't for the resolution bump when the iPhone 4 came out, the 3Gs wouldn't be able to run many apps.

As an engineer(ing student), I cannot agree with this man more. If I wanted someone to show me something, I'd watch a film.

Analyst calculates Game's loss from not stocking Mass Effect 3

@Teeree

Sort of. Assuming the UK GAMEs are anything like the ones down here in Oz, they give you better trade-in prices and don't hire people who know little about games, but their management is terrible and out of touch and they don't get a whole lot of business.

They also hold swingers' parties.

So far, so good: Why the Vita rises where the PSP fell

Mar 2nd 2012 5:03PM (Joystiq)
Ignoring the download speeds and wireless availability back in the era, flash memory was just too damn expensive. I remember paying $35 for a crappy 256mb USB, and that was months after the PSP came out.
They would have had to put a little physical HDD in it like the iPod Mini had, mening no room for a UMD port at all.

@Cozilz

Bilinear filtering dulls the colours and reduces clarity when compared to simple nearest-neighbour filtering. I personally find it incredibly ugly.
Seeing as the Vita's resolution is exactly 4x higher than the PSP's, I'd hope they have an option to turn the filtering off.
