Sonic Generations review: Run-time compiler

Nov 3rd 2011 3:45AM (Joystiq)
@AxelSteelBMX The demos show off the tutorial stages. There is a crap load more platforming in the other stages. Modern Sonic's stages feel more like a mix between Unleashed gameplay (without the trial-and-error aspect) and Adventure gameplay (without the godawful camera and crappy controls).

Did you even play Sonic Adventure 2? Grinding rails was optional my ass! One stage is essentially all rails. I'll never understand you crazy people who actually enjoyed that game.

Sonic Generations review: Run-time compiler

@Xcrucio I read it. It's a terrible review written by a nostalgia addict butt-hurt that this isn't a sploogefest over the Genesis games that everybody seems to worship as flawless (nostalgia's does that a lot). The proof, besides the ranting of how this game only gives 1/3 of stages to 1/3 of Sonic's history, is also the whining about the mission where you race against Cream. You mean Sonic actually has to race a character in a mission? Inconceivable! If that same stage had Classic Tails instead of Cream, Ludwig would have creamed his pants. That's why his review is BS.

@Muffimon And when I say Scott Pilgrim was tedious, I mean tedious as in werehog tedious.

Sonic Generations review: Run-time compiler

I always remember the Scott Pilgrim review when I think of Joystiq. A fun game, but tedious as hell and so not worth playing two players unless you have the characters powered up (but not maxed out, because then it's as boring as it is at the beginning): five stars because of the overdose of nostalgia it brings!

Sonic Generations: Only three stages from the classics, a review ranting about how bad the games have been and how the game dares to acknowledge those games as part of the series: Three stars.

I understand not everybody will like the game, but it seems like a lot of the negative reviews are from emotional fanboys who are more upset because it doesn't pay enough fan service to their precious classics (which, let's be honest, were not perfect either). They also all try to be clever with bad metaphors about how bad Sonic is (because nobody online has ever ranted about how bad Sonic has gotten and it certainly isn't cliche).

@PointlessPuppies To be honest, I think people who hate it are in it for the nostalgia. Take this review for example. What bothers him is that it doesn't take enough from the classic Sonics. It's a review based mostly on emotional than on the actual game (also seen by the ranting about how awful the past games were, as if people haven't whined about them long enough).
I say if you like Sonic and aren't the type of person who'll flip out over Classic Sonic rolling differently, Modern Sonic having green eyes, etc., then it's worth at least a rental.

BloodRayne Betrayal review: Re-animated

Sep 7th 2011 2:24AM (Joystiq)
As a huge fan of the first two, I was happy to see that the franchise still has life left in it (I don't acknowledge the Uwe Boll movies as existing), and I'm even happier that this game is good (and not just in my opinion, which seems to be in the minority when it comes to the first two games). I'm hoping that it turns out to be success as I don't think I can go another 7 years or so without more BloodRayne. :(

Buy multiple versions of Sonic 4, get a Sega shout-out

Oct 8th 2010 8:31PM (Joystiq)
Are they serious? Why would anybody want to buy all four versions? It makes sense (at least to me) to buy the iPhone version and another one; the iPhone version came out first and it's portable, while the other three versions look better and use actual gamepads. But buying the 360 version AND the PS3 version AND the Wii version?

iPhone-grabbing thief picks wrong phone at wrong time

I'm not surprised people think it's fake. This is the Internet, where people also think businesses purposely created shortages so they lose millions of dollars to gain sone publicity and real Youtube videos are called fake while obviously fake ones are thought to be real. Not much intelligence around here.
That story is pretty amusing though. I would love to have seen that jerk's face when he was caught.

Lost iPhone warrant withdrawn, Gizmodo agrees to cooperate in investigation

Mike, are you seriously saying that if you found an iPhone prototype, that you wouldn't guess it probably belonged to Apple but was intentionally left by the actual owner, who, in your mind, would not likely be Apple or somebody who works for Apple? If so, that's not something you'd want to proudly admit.

HelvetiNote for iPad long on looks, functionality

I use it but only because WriteRoom hasn't been ported yet and myTexts is so unstable. It doesn't support TextExpander, any way to export notes besides email, and isn't as clutter-free as it could be.
All I want is a decent app like WriteRoom on the iPhone. :( Why do the ones that come close always have to have that annoying sidebar in landscape view? An option to hide it would be well appreciated.
