This game looks quite interesting. I'l have to give it a shot!

The Onion: Apple announces Friend Bar

Jul 11th 2010 12:05PM (TUAW.com)
lol I love that Onion! I could definitely use a friend who has the same enthusiasm for Apple that I do. :(
I do take some objection to it! We definitely aren't that nerdy! The Droid crowd, definitely, but not us!

Reports: 3DS more powerful than Wii, doesn't use Nvidia chips

It's totally uncharacteristic of them, but if they find Apple a real threat, then I could understand them not wanting to pull any punches.

Splinter Cell: Conviction now on iPhone

May 27th 2010 6:01PM (Joystiq)
I'm not a Splinter Cell fan, but I played the demo on my brother's Xbox and it was fun, so if not for the awful AI, I think I'd actually buy this. Hopefully Gameloft will update it and fix the problems.

Gameloft brings a selection of games to Android

Gameloft SPECIALIZES in knockoffs. However, to their defense, the knockoffs are higher quality than one would expect.

Apple is unconcerned with NPD's smartphone report

May 16th 2010 3:41PM (TUAW.com)
And the iPad and iPod touch run the same exact iPhone OS as the iPhone, so it's disingenuous not to include those, unless the whole point is simply to make Android look good. But I guess it's OS but only for specific situations. That's like doing a survey on OS X vs. Windows but only counting desktops and not notebooks or netbooks even though they all run the same OS!
It also ignores the fact that the Android phone manufacturers are competing with each other as much as they are competing with Apple.

Apple is unconcerned with NPD's smartphone report

May 15th 2010 8:41PM (TUAW.com)
If it was comparing smartphone to smartphone, then they wouldn't lump up all the Android phones. If they're comparing OS to OS, then they need to include all the iTouch devices with the iPhones.
So actually, it's about OS vs OS but only counting smart phones and not all the devices on which those OSes actually run; rather disingenuous just to make Android look good. Might as well do a survey on smartphones but only counting ones that run on Verizon and use those results to prove that the iPhone OS (since we're talking about the OS, right?) has been completely defeated.

But enough talking on your iPhone! Have at Castlevania Puzzle!

This is the greatest thread I have ever read on the Internets.

(as for the more serious side of it, my iPhone's reception seems okay, but I don't talk much on the phone anyway and it might just be the location, so YMMV)

Hook, Line and Stinker: My failed Nier review

May 4th 2010 9:45PM (Joystiq)
Maybe I'm just too ol' school OG original gamer and all, but I absolutely despise fishing mini-games; it's why I quit the Wii Zelda. I play games to kick ass and take names, not to do something I wouldn't even want to do in real life.

The only game I ever played a decent fishing mini-game was on Sims 3 for the iPhone, and that's because it's quick and simple.

Apple sells 1 million iPads in first 28 days (the magical revolution has begun)

May 3rd 2010 3:38PM (Joystiq)
Exactly, aristokat! I don't think some gamers get the irony of complaining about others wasting their money on products they don't need. I love videogames, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking it's essential to my life (or I will die!).
These iPad "suckers" aren't the only ones: who here hasn't purchased something when it was relatively new? How many of us have purchased games or consoles when they're brand new? There's even some people who spend thousands of dollars on a computer just so they could play a few bleeding-edge games at the max settings.
Reminds me of that South Park where the hippies had their music festival. Sometimes, I picture some gamers playing a videogame and telling themselves, "I am so changing the world!"
