Think about the population of the earth. 6.5 Billion people share this planet, about 1.6 billion don't have access to electricity making the new total 4.9 billion possible gamers. This is just me but id say out of that 4.9 billion pple maybe 2 doubtfully 3% of even play video games. (1% being 49million pple). But to the point I agree complexity doesnt matter IMO, But honestly the average gamers age is 30 (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game )
most 30 year old's arn't looking for a 80+ hour game that takes all their time, they have jobs, girlfriends, wife, and lives. Simplisity helps making it easier for the "average" game to just jump right in and relax and not having to worry about having to fig out how to get past level 83 of some tower that has 9 gazillion puzzles. Seeing that games such as sports games are top sellers, As long as you know the basic concept of the sport all you gotta do is play it, it doesnt change much making it fun for the player. I'm not gonna say all gamers are like that, because of course I love games that require thought (ex. FF7, Halo, etc.......) but some times i just wanna chill and roll crap up in my katamari and not worry how im gonna beat the final boss with only 32 mp left.
