NPD study says that gamers prefer retail

Feb 23rd 2009 10:20AM (Joystiq)
I personally hate the idea of buying games from retail. Those cases, unused manuals, and annoying discs! Not to mention having to deal with the local games retailer, which is always an annoying experience at best. I personally would buy way more console games if it were as simple as queuing it up, and giving my CC info. As for PC games, I exclusively only purchase games available for download.

boxee mulls production of its own set-top-box

Jan 22nd 2009 9:44AM (Engadget)
I would be way more interested in an XBMC/Plex STB. Granted my time spent in boxee beta has been limited, but it just doesn't seem to be nearly as good of a media center. I suppose one benefit making STB's would have, is that it would get the market saturation higher, so you might actually, you know, have a friend who also has boxee, and be able to use some of it's functionality.

All of this being said, it would have to come out cheaper than a mac mini, and be able to play back 1080p AC3 content as easily.

Ask Engadget: What's the most reliable wireless router?

Oct 24th 2008 11:36AM (Engadget)
I have the Asus WL-500G w/DD-WRT, it's fast, stable and kicks the ass of any consumer router I've had in the past. I'm not saying it's the best, but it has pleased me.

I have a similar, home made setup, with a couple Motorola HDTV boxes. You can get the HDTV through firewire, and SD through Coax, channel changing is done by either IR Blasters, or over Firewire. The biggest problem with the above picture, is that both the HTPC and the cable boxes produce a LOT of heat, and they are definitely not happy in a small confined space with little to no ventilation. I had to install some silent, high output fans into the back of the cabinet I am using, not to mention the wires coming out of it, making it a little less likely to be used as a coffee/cocktail table, but more as a disguise right beside your TV/AV rack.

Adventure hero Zak McKracken (sort of) returns

Apr 24th 2008 10:17AM (Joystiq)
While this is great and all, why dont we see these fans (and other fan projects (ultima 5 project?!) use these powers for awesome, and release some new IP, along the veins of the games we love??!!

Video Games Live announces 40 shows across the globe

Jan 17th 2008 4:30PM (Joystiq)
I went in 2007, and it was actually really well put together. My girlfriend bought the tickets, as she submits me to countless opera's and concertos, she thought I would like it, which I did. The surprising thing was, that she liked it just as much as a regular philharmonic outing. Anyways, they have a good show, and the music (at least in my city w/out Philharmonic Orch) was really well put together. I think it makes for a nice sunday afternoon outing, or you could easily make it an evening.

I have all 3 consoles, and currently Mario Galaxies is the one that's still drawing my attention. To be fair my playstation bit it, and is in repairs so I haven't gotten to fire up Uncharted yet, and again admittedly I have completed Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect hasn't arrived at my door step yet (Canada Post FTL). BUT, I think SMG is a great game, and it does start to get quite challenging as you get further into it. Give it another shot my non english friend!
