Fat Princess getting plumper with Fat Roles DLC on June 29

Jun 26th 2010 11:37AM (Joystiq)
Fat Princess is a cute and slick game but the online gameplay is severely hampered by peered hosting. Lag, drop outs, and the ever looming threat of the host are facts of life. Would it have killed Sony to build dedicated hosting into a game which would massively benefit from it?

How would you change Sony's Dash?

@wako people say it because its true. If you're going to go to the effort of making some embedded device that uses widgets and probably runs on Linux, why *aren't* you using Android? The thing is designed for that purpose and works exceptionally well.

Shoving out something which appears to be a Flash Lite player app is a wasted opportunity.

I own a Chumby and while the concept is great the implementation is let down by the software. It has lots of little annoying little "features" such as dropping the wifi so content doesn't update, or not reverting to night mode after an alarm goes off. The downloadable widgets are also quite poor as is the way of installing them. These things might sound minor but they get very annoying when they happen day in day out.

The specs are pretty low on the Chumby but maybe its capable of running Android. If someone got it working I'd be over like a shot. Most of the default Android apps are better than the ones in Chumby so the experience instantly improves, and of course you get browser and other stuff too.

ITV HD fails to show England's first World Cup 2010 goal to the home fans (video)

@FORDY I'm British by birth and definitely not American. I just don't take a game featuring 22 millionaires very seriously.

I do think England really screwed up big time by not putting an end to things with the ample opportunities they had. And then to concede such a goal... I feel sorry for the goalie because the rest of his life is going to be hell if England don't qualify.

Haha too funny. I'm sure fans were going apeshit over it. What I noticed about the match was how one sided it was and yet England still botched it, especially the US goal.

Sony 3DTVs go on pre-sale at Sony Style stores immediately, 'Cloudy' hits Blu-ray 3D June 22

@fingers Punch out a lens from a set of passive 3D glasses and enjoy glorious 3D at least some of the time thanks to the Pulfrich effect. If the camera is tracking one way you perceive it as 3D motion.

I have to wonder why anyone would buy a 1st gen 3D television. There is little content to play and the cold reality is that the technology is going to get better and cheaper in a relatively short period of time. Let some other sap drop $3500 for a 3D TV. In a year from now they'll be half the price. Soon after they'll be increasingly seen as a standard feature or mid range TVs. By then there may even be something worth playing on them.

Bonux's Android set-top box is pretty much Google TV lite... really lite (video)

Looks like they've done the utter minimum to run Android. That UI is just the standard Android UI with a few extra activities.

Poll: Do you think Avatar will ship on Blu-ray 3D this year?

May 30th 2010 4:11AM (Engadget HD)
I expect it will turn up. After they've strip mined all interest out of the title in conventional format they'll launch a super duper Collectors edition for 2-3x the price probably to coincide with a seasonal holiday and some massive 3D launch. Early adopters are always so desperate for content they will pay over the odds for anything to showcase their purchase.

IMO with Avatar or not, the current selection of 3D content is pathetic and will be for a few years. Even then it's probably going to be padded out with some truly awful 3D conversions.

Poll: Lost ends this weekend, are you ready?

May 23rd 2010 4:34AM (Engadget HD)
Lost is a prime example of a US show which starts with an interesting premise and then gets more tired, strung out, desperate and convoluted with each series until finally they jump the shark. Sometimes less is more and far too many series simply don't know when to quit for their own good.

People think this is the end of Lost, but really it's going keep enough open to allow for a movie or two.
