Having read through this whole talkback, I just wanted to re-iterate some points that people made:
1) I forget exactly how many people got through, but I think it was 7 on each of the two days. If I remember correctly, 10 of the 14 performances were shown. That's not a large number by any means. 2) Come on, how dense are you if you think the performers are being "exploited"? They should know EXACTLY what they are getting into, especially since the contestants (and I had a friend who auditioned for the Canadian Idol show, and had to go through the same thing) have to sign disclosure agreements that allow their faces to be shown on television. 3) Yeah, a LOT of people have inflated opinions about themselves. If you can sing, and truly and deeply think you have what it takes to be a star, and have support from trained musicians, teachers and friends (and not just your family), then go for it, but for God's sake, at least perform for others and get their opinion before going on a nationally-broadcast talent search contest. 4) I have no doubt that the producers of AI intentionally pick bad people in their pre-screening process. I also have no doubt that some people purposely go on the show to fuck up and sound terrible. It happens, and those people take advantage of it. Likewise, I think the producers intentionally give the backstory for some of the bad performers in order to elicit a sympathetic response from the audience. 5) From what I read, the ratings of the show hit 41 MILLION people by the end of the two hours. You can bitch and complain about how you're all going to boycott a show, but someone, somewhere is watching the show. 6) It's a television show. It's like a modern version of the Gong Show.
Honestly, how dense are some of you people? Have any of you even bothered to read the Zootfly website? It clearly states what game engine the designers are using:
"ZootFly's core effort is the continuing development of its proprietary engine, called Xubl. Xubl' internal architecture is based on an abstract engine designed as a Maya plug-in. With such open architecture, anyone can create and add a new component such as renderer, input system, sound system, effects, image file format, visibility, codecs or any other abstract engine component. Seamless integration with Alias Maya makes Xubl a tool that slashes production time considerably. Designing levels is extremely easy: everything can be done in Maya; from modeling, mapping and animating, to positioning of sound sources, particles, events, triggers, scripting and NPCs. Events can later be visually scripted with the innovative Visual Script feature. Soon, Xubl will be freely downloadable for non-commercial use. In conjunction with Maya Personal Learning Edition, Xubl will be the mod community's dream come true."
It's not Gears Of War. It's not Half-Life 2. It's not the Unreal Engine. For Christ's sake, learn to investigate before you all go running your goddamn mouths.
