Sony on 360 Netflix issues: 'Not specific to Xbox'

Nov 20th 2008 8:29PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Concurring here. You all *really* need to see Paprika. Even the five court ladies danced in sync to the frog's flutes and drums. The whirlwind of recycled paper was a sight to see. It was like computer graphics. That I don't support Technicolor parfaits and snobby petit bourgeois is common knowledge in Oceania! Now is the time to return home to the blue sky! The confetti will dance around the shrine gates. The mailbox and the refrigerator will lead the way! Anyone who cares about expiration dates will not get in the way of the glory train! They need to fully realize the liver of the triangle rulers! Now, this festival was decided by the third grade class with the telephoto camera! Move forward! Come together! I am the ultimate governor!

Verizon promises increased interactivity for FiOS TV customers

Sep 19th 2008 9:28PM (Engadget)
Give me more HD channels (seriously, in the Baltimore area we get slim pickings) and they have my attention. I love my FiOS, and Verizon is lower on the list of evil companies than Comcast, so more good things is well...a good thing.

As long as we still get Leonard Nimoy, I'm cool.

PS3 gets smashed on launch day

Nov 17th 2006 2:06PM (Joystiq)
@34

Actually, smashing a PS3 DOES hurt Sony. Remember, on every PS3 they crank out, Sony is losing a good chunk of change. As they operate on the razor/razor-blade model, they're hoping to recoup that on games and accessories. Taking the hammer to it keeps them from doing so.

Bundling this stuff is stupid. I, like countless Live users, already *have* UNO. Why buy it again?

The sad state of video game journalism

Jul 20th 2006 2:55PM (Joystiq)
This is why I want to write about video games. There's a big problem in the field that needs fixing, and writers who spend too much time not focusing on the important stuff are part of it. You don't see Roger Ebert analyzing the fine points of how a movie renders walls. Rather, he analyzes the big picture. He analyzes it as a work of art, not (generally) a technical achievement. As I believe games are an art form on par with movies or music, I feel we need to look at games under a different light than we have been.

Want to write for Joystiq? 'Course you do

Your comments: I do have a resume. To my name I have two years working as the
resident geek on my school newspaper. I also have almost a year put
into a podcast (http://rangercast.podomatic.com). Unfortunately,
at the moment, I lack the free time for this sort of endeavor, though
I would love to join you guys, and this sort of job is one of my goals
as a writer, maybe someday in the future I will.

(I live in another hotbed of game development, Maryland. There are a ton of developers practically up the street from me. Firaxis, Big Huge Games, Day 1 Studios, BreakAway Games, et cetera.)

More musical Mizuguchi mayhem materializes

To #1, get a PSP--they're cheaper now--with Lumines, Wipeout, and Me and My Katamari. Thank me later.

Lumines Live multiplayer blocked by micropayments [update 1]

Jun 20th 2006 8:27PM (Joystiq)
What the fjork?

Mizuguchi-san would have to be on some serious drugs (then again, this is the man behind Rez ;-) ) to think this is a good idea. Charging people for what should be standard components of a game they already bought is ridiculous. Paying some MS Points for some new songs down the road? Fine. Slapping down some more for a multiplayer mode in Lumines Live when the very title of the game implies online play? BS.

Of course, if the reason was because they couldn't make it in time to ship, that would be fine. But that clearly isn't it. That said, Lumines is always worth the money. I just hope they don't end up nickel-and-diming us, and I hope it doesn't set a precedent.
