"EA's offerings on the Wii have been, for the most part, lackluster in the best case and downright atrocious in the worst case. There's a few notable exceptions, but for the most part this holds true."
Did you not see the part where I said there are a few notable exceptions? The games you listed are the few notable exceptions.
I also never claimed MobyGames had all the answers... that was just the only site I checked, and I also stated my source instead of making a blanket statement. I didn't catch that I had copied and pasted the wrong title on the list in terms of Fifa Soccer 08... it was supposed to be 10 and not 08... I am DEEPLY sorry for my mistype.
However....
Next time you want to try trolling me, you better bring a bigger gun. My comment still stands as valid. But since you seem to be the jackass here, let me list all of the games that EA put out in 2009 (according to GameSpot, at least):
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (WII) - 88 points Game: Grand Slam Tennis (WII) - 78 points Boom Blox Bash Party (WII) - 86 points Hasbro Family Game Night 2 (WII) - 63 points Madden NFL 10 (WII) - 77 points MySims Agents (WII) - 78 points EA Sports Active More Workouts (WII) - 80 points NASCAR Kart Racing (WII) - 70 points Trivial Pursuit (WII) - 67 points FIFA Soccer 10 (WII) - 75 points SimAnimals (WII) - 58 points Nerf: N-Strike Elite (WII) - 67 points Hasbro Family Game Night 1 & 2 Bundle (WII) - No metacritic score Littlest Pet Shop: Friends (WII) - No metacritic score SimAnimals Africa (WII) - 53 points G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (WII) - 51 points Charm Girls Club Pajama Party (WII) - no metacritic score Dead Space Extraction (WII) - 82 points The Beatles: Rock Band (Wii) - 89 points EA SPORTS Active (Wii) - 81 points Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Wii) - 78 points Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Wii) - 69 points Spore Hero (Wii) - 61 points
That's 23 games released in 2009.... and you can only list THREE games out of that 23 that are good. Your saying you only feel 13% of the games that EA released in 2009 were any good in your opinion. And you don't see a problem here?
I've also included the metacritic scores for each title... and generally people I know who use metacritic tend to only stick with games that score an 80 or better. Using this logic, that means only 6 games would meet the criteria as "something I would purchase". That breaks down to 28% of EA's titles released in 2009 were classified by the people I know as titles they'd like to purchase.
That is about as abysmal as the 13% that you seem to think are great games. Any company that is sporting these kind of percentages has a definite problem. And that problem is the majority of games they are putting out on the Wii are absolute garbage. The metacritic scores say that....and if you put any stock in metacritic, then you have to agree with this assessment. Nintendo doesn't have any control over what their third party publishers push out. If they did, there wouldn't be such a glaring percentage of sub-par games.
Of course EA has released some great titles on the Wii in 2009... but those titles are clearly few and far between. The majority have been received by the public as sub-par. If every game that EA put out on the Wii was as well received as Dead Space: Extraction or Tiger Woods 2010... they wouldn't be having a problem now would they?
Go back to your bridge troll... you have wasted enough of my time.
I agree the Wii could definitely benefit from a price drop to $99.... but only to remain competitive. That whole song and dance about the way Nintendo treats third-party properties is absolute BS and reeks of finger pointing.
The guy says he can go back the N64 or SNES era to prove his point... ok. Let's go back to the SNES era and take a look. Squaresoft did remarkably well back in the SNES era with little support from Nintendo. Rare also did remarkably well with the same amount of support from Nintendo.
This putz just hasn't figured out that game sales are predicated by fun factor and not platform. EA's offerings on the Wii have been, for the most part, lackluster in the best case and downright atrocious in the worst case. There's a few notable exceptions, but for the most part this holds true. EA has yet to actually capitalize on the strengths of the platform... and instead of owning up to that failure, they would rather cite a lack of support by Nintendo.
Sorry... but it doesn't fly. If you want to make a profit on Wii, you need to make games that are fun to play. According to Mobygames, these are the games that EA put out in 2009:
* The Beatles: Rock Band * Dead Space: Extraction * EA Playground * EA SPORTS Active * FIFA Soccer 08 * G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra * Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince * Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix * Medal of Honor: Vanguard * MySims * Need for Speed: Carbon * Need for Speed: ProStreet * SimAnimals * Spore Hero
As for 2010.... Mobygames doesn't have any games put out by EA for the Wii platform. They did, however, put out 64 games in the 2010 calander year.... suspicious that none of those 64 games made it over to the Wii.
Like I said... EA needs to dedicate some solid resources to making good Wii games. Crying foul because their previous offerings have fallen flat and blaming Nintendo for said failures is ignorance in the extreme.
I got my brother Fallout: New Vegas for Christmas because he is pretty much a Fallout nut. He's been playing Final Fantasy XI for years and the only time I have ever seen him **NOT** playing Final Fantasy XI is when he's playing Fallout 3.
I want this sign because it would be a pretty awesome gift to give him... something that is unique and I know exactly where he'd put it... right on the wall behind his bed.
And what is truly sad about this article is... lots of people were laid off from Westwood Studios (myself included) after pretty much the same stuff happened (too many crunch hours, not meeting milestones, lack of accountability, etc). And that was 8 years ago. I guess no matter how much things change, they still remain the same.
First Activision talks about supporting indie development... then shuts down TSL with a Cease and Desist... then gives these two Infinity Ward execs the boot.... then wonders why they are getting sued...
