Dec 23rd 2009 4:44PM (Joystiq)The Guild comic available for pre-order
Dec 22nd 2009 9:11PM (WoW)Now with that out of the way, I personally love The Guild. The writing is pretty sharp (the acting isn't the BEST, but probably better than most web series I've watched). I think the reason it is as popular as it is owes to the fact that the fans can connect with the characters in someway, whether on a deeply personal level or seeing the people they play with. I see bits of myself in every character and thats what keeps me watching the show every week (or at least when it is running).
Now, as for Felicia Day, I have tremendous respect for her. I mean, look at the number of web series out there and try to count how many of their actors/writers have had ANY mainstream appeal. Now I'm not saying that we will see a full Guild TV series anytime soon, but I think it speaks volumes of the series success that she appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show. It also seems to me that this was a deeply personal project for her seeing as that she wrote the role of Codex for herself.
The other reason that she is as popular as she is the simple fact that she is very approachable. She has a good knowledge of geek culture and is very thankful for all of her fans. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Comic-Con and I can tell you from personal experiences that she is hands down one of the nicest people I have met.
Back to the topic though, I am looking forward to The Guild comic. I pre-ordered mine not too long ago and I made sure to request that my local comic shop pick it up.
Keep up the good work!

Dec 16th 2009 4:13AM (Joystiq)Modern Warfare 2's writer claims "the airport level was a risk we had to take"
Nov 20th 2009 4:06PM (Big Download)And I personally believe the airport scene did a lot to help the story. Playing through it, I felt bad for what I was doing, but it did a lot to put me in the shoes of the character. Yeah, if you take it out of context, it seems like a senseless display of violence, but leading up to it, a character (nameless for spoilers) tells you that you will have to do some things that may go against your moral compass, this massacre being one of them. Not that I want to see this become a trend in games, but I believe they took a risk in putting this in the game and it paid off in the end.
