It's a weird combo, although, nothing goes together better than aerial warfare and drunken monarchs destroying space.

Swag Sunday: Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) [update]

Sep 21st 2009 1:38AM (Joystiq)
My favorite moment in any metroid game is when I get lost, but stumble upon something amazing almost by accident. My first Metroid game was Prime, so I'd have to say that I first felt this magical game design when I was lost deep within the Chozo Ruins, and I ended up finding the elevator to Magmoor Caverns. I went down to Magmoor Caverns, only to realize that I needed the Varia suit first.

I had played plenty of open-ended games before, but this was one of the first times where I didn't feel like the game was putting invisible walls in my way, or restricting my movement to new levels. I seriously felt like I was samus, and this entire planet was completely open for my exploration. Yes, I'm aware that Super Metroid does this spectacularly (Even better than Prime), but I hadn't played Super Metroid at the time. The Metroid series is the absolute best in terms of level design and player immersion, and that moment was my first taste of it.

The beginning of the movie was classic. We start with Dilios, rallying the troops with the tale of Leonidas' birth, which provides the historical background of the Spartans, as well as introduces us to the vigor and intensity of Leonidas himself. The most memorable scene is when the young Leonidas faces the wolf, which I'm guessing Miller wanted to represent the ferocity and evil nature of the Spartans enemies. Leonidas uses the Defense/Offense switch maneuver to take the enormous wolf down, which shows us a glimpse of the battle techniques that he will use against the Persians.

Wii chip production well underway, say IBM, Nintendo [update 2]

Sep 8th 2006 12:07AM (Joystiq)
Oh, how the gaming culture never fails to amuse me. Tell me where Joystiq said this would be the Megaton? Tell me where Joystiq said it would be the best news ever?

No, they merely said they had good news, and they tipped you all off early. I got excited too, it was fun even.

Of course, this is obviously not what we expected.

But why blame joystiq for something that is not their fault? All the hype is in our very own heads.

Plus, this is awesome news! You fail to see that this means that Nintendo is so far ahead of the game. The PS3 has JUST STARTED production. Nintendo seems to be just FINISHING. We really could get it next week like some people said.

PS3 impressions: Resistance Fall of Man

Where WAS Killzone 2? Did it ever exist? Was it really just a shiny, overhyped, prerendered concept movie? Signs point to yes.

What happened Sony? The Xbox 360 had games that were FUN and the Wii represented something new. You represented everything that Nintendo was against: Better looking versions of the same old, crap. Survival of the fittest works even in the Video Game Industry. Evolve or Die.

Nintendo invokes good names to defend a bad one [update 1]

Now, I think the name is bad, but you guys are laying it on pretty thick, don't you think? I mean, there's a difference between giving news and whining.
