I’ll assume you've developed games on the PS3 and 360, because if you hadn't then that last comment would probably make you a short sighted, insulting, self important twonk.
But I wouldn't want to make generalised accusations about you based purely upon your twonkish output without fully understanding the facts surrounding your claims - so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.
You are so right! It's totally not the PS3's fault that developers don't want to spend six months extra developing a comparable PS3 port of a game which takes half the development resources to complete on a 360. Stupid, stupid developers!
Bruce Wayne and Adam Smith will be fascinated to hear of this new theory of how competition reduces sales but increases buyer choice. Please forward it to my secretary, Pepper.
Sweet zombie jesus. I'm going to stab myself in the leg with this fork if another sonofabitch grafiks guru blurts out "HD textures" as if they know a god damn thing about viddiya games and compewters.
Products are priced according to what people are willing to pay for them, not by some commie share-and-share alike deal which only covers a companies costs and then provides a little cheeky spending money.
The real question is, why even bother with a marketing drive? Is Microsoft so desperate for me to love them that they have to convince me a compulsory update is fun and wonderful?
Just update the damn thing and stop clogging up my RSS feeds with completely pointless marketing.
Art, along with most worthwhile entertainment, is commentary on, or at least riffs off, some real world event or situation on some level, right? Part of HL2's success (for me at least) is because of the story's sci-fi take on the authoritarian regimes we see all around us nowerdays.
I expect the Half Life 2 writers would be disappointed if the story didn't make you think just a little tiny bit about the shitstorm of religious and political fundamentalism that our own world is swept up in right now. The fact that Cruises wacko-space-cult speech expresses the combine mindset so neatly is no accident. With minor modification, it could also be applied to a Cheney mind fart or a Nazi rally and still stir the loin cloths of any apes who care to listen (no offence meant to genuine apes who I assume do not keep a woodie spare for the thought of authoritarian regimes).
It's almost a shame it needs some bright spark film creator to clearly link the two before people start to cotton on. It was a bloody good film though, so I’ll forgive him.
