and what exactly can GLAAD do about it? oh yeah nothing.
it's surprising that more games don't take things like this more seriously, though. when i play battlefield 2, the community-owned servers always have very strict rules about language and insults. games are a real turn off when it turns negative
increasingly online game servers are run by the console or game manufacterer, so because they aren't community based they don't have clan/guild members on the servers at all time acting as moderators. instead they have a piss poor reporting system.
microsoft and sony are really still clueless on this whole motion thing - it's either all or nothing. if sony and microsoft want to use motion control, they really need to make a specific controller made just for it like on the wii. i doubt motion could really work for their platforms as it is right now because of the types of games they attract.
waving your arms around like an idiot (and without having precise control of the game like what is capable on the wii) or a stupid wand just don't cut it.
nintendo really got it right with the wii. because of the way they designed their controller, which can function like a cursor or a motion device, an entirely unique class of games exists that you can only purchase on the wii, while the ps3 and xbox 360 are simply PC replacements (since people no longer buy dedicated desktop pcs souped up for gaming).
even making the wii less powerful was a good choice for nintendo. otherwise, it would just have xbox/ps3 ports (which would make people simply avoid the nintendo console, like with the gamecube). with a slower machine, the wii not only HAS to get exclusive games, it's also cheaper to do so (by some estimates 4x cheaper), enabling publishers to take a greater risk on the console. after the gamecube, that's exactly what nintendo needed.
sony, microsoft: look at nintendo and take less than a half-assed lesson. selling trilogies of testosterone-fests won't win you the average gamer, which is today the 25-40 something FEMALE.
Nice post, "car industry expert." I've never heard a car industry expert claiming that the Brits made fantastic cars.
European brands consistently score lower on reliability than Japanese, Korean, and in many cases American cars. Ford is doing fine because they make quality cars in Europe and in America (although yes, the European models are better, it has nothing to do with the nationality of the people producing them. Ford's management is what's running their European plants, not their workers' national flag.) Chrysler is a bag of crap and shouldn't exist, that's the only thing true in your post.
All the super car brands you mentioned VW owning are not cars any typical person would buy, that statement is irrelevant. In the US VW suffers from poor quality perception (and reality) as well as below average value. (I'm not bashing, I own one)
Most British cars I can think of are owned by foreigners. Jaguar/Land Rover is owned by an Indian car company. Ford owned Aston Martin for a 13 year span, and is now owned primarily by foreign investors. The rest of the British brands are no longer in production, because they broke and rusted out.
it's so simple to change people's perception of diesel, and volkswagen is doing it right:
1. make fun of hybrids, because diesels can get better mileage with simpler, longer lasting engines, without the potentially dangerous/environmentally unfriendly batteries.
2. call it a "clean diesel." and put a fancy blue or green logo on it. seriously, that's all you need to convince the public. just keep drilling it into their brains that it's green. most people fall for stuff that just has green in the packaging (supermarket products anyone?)
it's going to take someone larger than volkswagen to push diesel into the US. i have no idea why other automakers don't want to push diesel. selling hybrids is selling a product that's far to complicated to manufacture and develop than it has to be.
or better yet: diesel hybrids! they would probably hit 60-100 mpg easy!
Uhh, so you're suggesting it would be a good idea for Nintendo to strip the world's 4th largest game publisher of their Wii license if they botch Red Steel 2?
You have to be kidding right? Ubisoft has made some of the Wii's biggest 3rd party hits, and regardless of quality Red Steel was a big seller and a launch title (so quality complaints are moot).
All game consoles are toys, you do play with them and everything. If you think current Xbox 360s are as prone to failure as the old ones you are just high.
The Wii is the top selling console and makes the most profit, period. It also has a huge variety of games for every demographic, just because it has games that don't appeal to you doesn't mean it's not a game console. It has the most exclusives and the most original games that have never been done before on any platform, and not only that but all the games cost at least $10 less.
Look I can be a fanboy too: How replaceable are those PS3 controller batteries? Oh yeah they aren't. How ergonomic are they? Oh yeah they are from 1994. Everyone I know with a PS3 bought them before they had rumble too so they have to buy all new controllers if they want something that the Xbox came with standard (That's ~$200 for four of them). That's a lot more than $15 for 4 rechargeable AA batteries and charger. How many exclusive PS3 games are there, like 3?
Oh and how has the PSN's free service been? Most game reviewers and players all agree LIVE is worth the cost because it's the best online service available for consoles.
How exactly is Blu-ray the format of the future? I see streaming videos (like Netflix) as the future, and so does Microsoft and Apple...so it sounds like the two largest makers of operating systems are going to disagree with you there.
-------------- I could go on but I feel like a huge moron. Fanboyism is plain stupid. Shut up and pick whatever console you like. Nobody's forcing you to enter in this Wendy's contest or buy a Wii or Xbox.
