Interesting =/= good.

The whole point of a story is to get invested in the characters. If the game doesn't "force me to think all that much," then it sounds like it has little to no story.

Any story worth its salt makes you think about it.

Ok, let me rephrase. Organizing a bake sale or rescuing a kitten out of a tree does not mean that character is 'good'. They can do horrible things and still be 'good'.

Example: Dexter

Vegeta beat me to it. I agree with this point of view 100%. Just because the main character isn't organizing an elementary school bake sale doesn't mean he/she is a bad person.
