Major Nelson talks Guitar Hero downloads, Halo 3

Apr 12th 2007 3:18PM (Joystiq)
TheHostileDwarf,

1. ad hominem arguments. Always amusing, never very effective.

2. Nelson being a PR guy for MS isn't the issue. The issue is "Why do GH packs cost so much on Live?" He responded to it. Sorry it wasn't the response you wanted to hear. However, because it's not what you wanted to hear doesn't mean it's a load of shit. Honestly, what did you want him to say? "Oh, gee, yeah, GH sells really well, so we'd figure people can't do math anymore so we added an extra 0 on to the points cost." Even assuming that was reality, why would one ever assume that he'd say that?

3. MS has been very reactive to the community and comments like what's going on here, that's true. So, yes, it's very reasonable to assume that this is the best way to get your voice heard by them. What I've got a problem with is the simple comments of "I don't buy it." Some don't explain it, others just seemingly ignore anything that tries to defend MS. I'm not saying that the GH songs are overpriced. I'm saying that barking at MS and, by proxy, Nelson is barking up the wrong tree. Random, one sentence dismissals only show that they are unwilling to listen to an explination, because "it came from the enemy."

4. Speaking of not being all that novel, what's this "hit them form all sides" bullshit about? While we've established MS is listening to this, they are not, in all likelihood, listening all that hard. Posting on Joystiq does not change and shift the fault lines for the industry. Hell, it's barely something fellow consumers even give a shit about. Riots will not occur. A statue of Major Nelson will not fall in some MS plaza by the strength of enraged gamers. I guess I'm going to have to be cliche in closing with "if you don't like it, don't buy it," but that's just how it's going to be.

Perhaps some of you who balk at the GH prices should do as he suggests, and BRING IT THE @#$% UP WITH RED OCTANE. This is no different than when I wokred as a customer support rep for Cingular. Motorola would make a bad phoen, or have a bad batch, but people will act like Cingular is responsible for the screw-up. There is a difference between a service and a product, here. If you went to buy the songs and half the time they didn't download right, that would be an MS screw-up. The prices are set be Red Octane. Talk to them.

WTS epic mount

Self-respect is essentially a personal view, as it depends on how you define respect.

I won't say what she did was wrong (although an explicit trade of a good or service in exchange for sexual favors IS prostitution,) but I will say that she got exactly what she was asking for, in terms of both the mount and all the jabs and e-infamy. I'll also go so far as to say that if she wants to do things like that, that's fine, and I won't call her a slut for it. However, I know it's something I'd never do.

New Peter Lee concept art (including the Black Temple)

Could be Grace of Air. You know, to dodge arrows.

Because Tauren are so graceful. *cough* ;)

Level restrictions on the Dark Portal

I was one of the early lowbies in Shat (I've had my hearth set there since I was level 16.) It was funny at first, but now it's really more practicality more than anything. Leaping between cities saves me tons of time, and helps me focus on playing and less Alt-Tabbing while I'm playing some distances between locations. And since the only trainer of any use to me is the Jewelcrafter, I still have a need to visit the other places.

Breakfast Topic: When Shaman go OOM

Mar 8th 2007 10:43AM (WoW)
Have to agree witht he devs. I play an Enh/Resto Shaman, and there's still plenty of DPS to be had when I'm OOM. Between having totems out, which generally support the others, or with Windfury on my weapons bringing down the damage, I'm still useful when I'm OOM, even if I do have to stop and drink more after fights, or after 1-2 mobs soloing.

Mana ineffeciency is just the price for being able to do so much, IMO. We can deal decent melee DPS, we can do some spell DPS, we have a ton of support abilites, we ge to wear mail. There's not a whole lot a Shaman can't do.

Breakfast Topic: Your least favorite class to play

Feb 19th 2007 10:38AM (WoW)
I've really dug each class, with one exception:

Warrior.

I've got nothing against them, and I think they're really cool, but I *hate* tanking. I can't stand it. I know how to control my aggro and pets with other classes, but being on the other side of the coin is just too frustrating for me. Of course, I hear they're not really as good as certain Paladins anymore for tanking, so maybe they're just frontline DPS. That's fine, I wasn't a huge fan of how Rage worked.

Breakfast Topic: Is WoW a shameful thing?

Feb 16th 2007 1:01PM (WoW)
Shame is for people who think they are doing something wrong.

I've got a core group of friends that play, and I have freinds that don't. To be honest, I mainly keep playing to stay in touch with people who've moved from my town to other areas. Think of it like AIM with a game embedded.

I've never hid my habit from folks, but then again, I don't frequently talk to strangers, either.

Alright, that was completely worth it

Feb 6th 2007 10:59AM (WoW)
I re-rolled at expansion, mainly because my main, a Rogue, felt really useless in groups and was getting stale after 60 levels. Shaman was a class I started in when I was first playing Horde. I'm so glad I can come back to this class now, and keep all my Alliance buddies.

What's in an obscene name?

Feb 5th 2007 2:19PM (WoW)
You name things based on what you think about all the time, I guess.
